All roads lead back to him. When I first heard Ben Habib talk about dismantling every act of legislation with Blair’s fingerprints on it, I thought it sounded extreme.
But I get it now. We’ve got a cancer in the system, one that keeps mutating through policy, quangos, and “modernisation.” It has to be cut out before it consumes what’s left of the country.

That’s where the real danger lies.
With KYC, they already know who holds Bitcoin. If digital ID becomes mandatory, it’s not hard to imagine a world where those same people can simply be “turned off” accounts frozen, exchanges geo-fenced, access denied.
Now imagine if that same digital ID is linked directly to internet access itself. ISPs could be compelled to restrict or monitor what you do online, or even cut off your connection entirely if you fall outside the “approved” parameters.
It wouldn’t even need to be a total ban, just quiet de-banking and silent disconnection, one person at a time until compliance becomes normalised. The infrastructure for that already exists, buried under layers of “safety” and “trust.”
This isn’t paranoia; it’s pattern recognition. Every safeguard can be flipped into a control mechanism once the political wind shifts.

They may not have to bring digital id in via a single vote, because it’s already in under cover of multiple acts of legislation.

Maybe they don’t care about Bitcoin, because they have digital ID and a permission based society in mind as an end goal.
I run knots, but we may not be able to run anything if they shut off access to the internet via ISP’s.
I know these are uncomfortable questions, but if we don’t ask them, we can’t identify solutions. That’s all I’m looking for.

Honest and heartfelt question.
Firstly, let me be clear, I save in Bitcoin. I’m not easily swayed by FUD or hysteria. But this concern has been weighing on me.
I live in the UK, where talk of mandatory digital ID is becoming increasingly hard to ignore. I believe the infrastructure is already quietly in place, hidden beneath layers of legislation, buried like a silent kill switch waiting for activation.
Here’s my worry: if internet access itself becomes state-controlled, if permission is required to connect, how do we access Bitcoin?

Rees-Mogg has just joined the dots on something important, two stories with the same root cause.
The first is the ban on Coinbase crypto adverts. This is not about protecting consumers, it is about protecting the state’s monopoly on money. Fiat currency is the quiet tax machine, every currency in history has eventually gone to zero, and the pound, dollar and euro are well on the way. Crypto threatens that revenue stream, so it gets censored.
The second is the growing rumour of an October exit tax. Lord Ashcroft says wealthy people are already moving their money abroad now. Reeves could tax unrealised gains simply for leaving the country. The United States did this in the nineties and it worked, people left before the hammer fell.
The Sovereign Individual predicted this decades ago. Technology shifts power to the individual, governments panic, they reach for censorship, control, and financial traps.

I’m not sure how the general population will deal with this. Some have wised up, but others still hold the same conditioning and will sadly still comply.
History shows us that emergency powers are rarely rolled back. After 9/11, the Patriot Act normalised mass surveillance. What was sold as protection became permanent infrastructure.
Covid extended that architecture. Tools designed for a health crisis, tracking apps, speech controls, digital passes, now underpin the legal censorship framework. These tools may not be fully active yet, but the rails remain intact and will likely be developed further.

I’ve had a sense this was coming for some time. Public messaging still pushes the “everything is fine” narrative, but behind the scenes, governments are scrambling to manage the slow collapse of the fiat empire.
We’re entering the transition phase, and the US seems to be playing a strong “freedom-first” card, not out of altruism, but because first-mover advantage in a monetary reset is a massive lever.

Exactly this. That’s the paradox we’re living through:
Yes, anyone can opt into a Bitcoin standard today. That freedom is real, and it’s the source of hope.
But parallel to that, there’s a macro push forming above us, using Bitcoin to rebuild a financial empire that looks eerily familiar:
Wrapped rails, stablecoin settlements, dollar-denominated debt on crypto infrastructure.
So while we, those who understand the core problems, may retain sovereignty and use Bitcoin as intended, the vast majority who are economically unaware or simply trusting the system will likely be onboarded into something very different, a controlled, dollar-wrapped version dressed in the language of innovation.
That’s the risk: Bitcoin succeeds, but the people remain trapped.
This is why education, open discussion, and building genuine peer-to-peer alternatives matters so much right now.

Sometimes I feel like I’m living in a different reality from the people around me.
I don’t say that to sound clever, or edgy, or rebellious. I say it because I’ve been watching something build for years, and now that it’s here, it feels like almost no one wants to acknowledge it.
People keep pointing to obvious scapegoats — Putin, Trump, COVID, Brexit, Rachel Reeves, Starmer — as if the entire world’s unraveling can be explained by a handful of names. But I think the truth is bigger. More uncomfortable. And more important.
When I look back, I don’t see 2008 as the beginning of this crisis. I see it as a major signpost in a much longer story. The foundations were crumbling long before then.
We were already stacking up debt at every level — household, corporate, government. The financial system had quietly become a house of cards, built on leverage and false confidence. Books like The Creature from Jekyll Island warned about how the central banking system was never meant to be stable — it was designed to serve the interests of a few, while slowly undermining the value of money for everyone else.
