I've just watched my first video by "More Perfect Union" on YouTube about "prediction markets".
Now, I don't really agree with all the socialist talk of so-called "public health" and potential restrictions and regulations on how people let themselves be fleeced out of their money but if they at least report the status quo correctly, then then my impression that those gambling sites like Kalshi and Polymarkets are just a bunch of sleezy slimeballs trying to get hopeless people to give up whatever money the government hasn't screwed them out of yet was absolutely correct.
I'm obviously against any form of regulation, bureaucratic agencies, politicians, or government by coercion but good sir or madam, if you partake in those prediction markets without any insider knowledge, you are an industrial grade moron.
And if you if do have insider information and use it against some innocent fool who can't tell his arse from a hole in the ground, well shame on you, that's just the worst kind of unproductive rent-seeking.
It's my believe that if the government hadn't made absolutely sure that the average job couldn't feed the average family - or even person - via taxes and regulations, there wouldn't be so many dead-enders looking for some way to break out of government-mandated poverty.
But hey, if all else fails, you can always draft them into the military and send them to kill some foreigner's children halfway across the world only so they can later off themselves if they can't deal with the memories anymore.

"Chicken Casserole" - dairy-less and grain-less for allergy reasons in the household.
Chicken, rice, broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, chicken stock, coconut milk, mustard, parsley, marjoram, paprika, nutmeg, cumin, salt, pepper, apple vinegar, coco aminos, ghee (made from milk ofc but virtually no milk protein).
All organic, no soy, no corn/maize, no weird vegan replacements, no seed oils, no highly-processed stuff, and ever so good, if I say so myself 😄

To a politician's mind, everything is a zero-sum game, whatever someone has, someone else must lose, because all their money is stolen from those actually able to produce.
If they would but stop interferring in people's affairs, this admittedly serious energy crisis would bring about all kinds of new business opportunities, new jobs at new drilling projects in countries whose price levels would've previously made it impossible to produce oil & gas competitively, and who knows, maybe even innovation that made oil & gas less relevant, like truck-sized or even smaller nuclear reactors, fusion reactors, or things too marvelous for me to even imagine.
But not to worry, the Western world is currently re-enacting the events of the third book of Atlas Shrugged, the collapse can't be too far off and then we can breathe easier for a while.

Haha, yeah I feel the same way, I'm afraid I live quite a few towns over but that's what I keep coming back to. I've recently spent an entire day working in the garden, raking leaves, cutting back plants, digging up trees and planting them somewhere else and while it was hard work, all my weird little aches and pains, physically and mentally, just went away.
Same thing when we re-tiled the bathroom the other day or when doing new fronts for kitchen cabinets, there's just something wholesome in that kind of activity.

Well, regardless whether that's true or not, from an a priori standpoint and considering I'm paying roughly 75-80% of my income in income tax, various excise taxes, and VAT, I could fairly easily get by doing roughly 20-25% of the work I'm doing now.

I feel like the more nationalized and bureaucratized scientific study has become, the less innovation it has produced.
There are apparently so many scientists now busying themselves with little other than writing grant applications, i.e. begging other bureaucrats for money.
There hasn't been a major advance in physics since the 1960s.
Material science has mostly succeeded in putting more plastic in everything.
The technological process I'm glad to be able to see is almost entirely driven by engineers using known scientific principles in new and clever ways, but the big questions not only remain unanswered, they're buried by DEI statements, gender studies grants, and pointless observations concerning the ability of krill to use treadmills.
In the days of gentlemen naturalists, new stuff would come flying at you at such a bewildering pace that people couldn't help but imagine a phantastical space-faring civilization living in abundance by the year 2000.
