Sending money to friends from different continents was the initial reason we started settling our tabs in bitcoin at @npub1pcz…0utg from 2014 onwards. It's still one of the most powerful USPs compared to the legacy system, even with Wise etc. making it much easier between the largest currency zones these days. Most of the world's population does not live in those zones.

Best practice (which is probably rarely followed) is to let users add multiple passkeys to the same account. That said, the level of lock-in they achieved by not letting you export anything and syncing only to a certain ecosystem's cloud servers in all big vendor implementations is completely over the top.

I don't think we all use the same definition for the term "censorship resistance":

More importantly, merchants should always add the ~3% (or, depending on their location and risk profile, up to 9%) card fees on top of the final price if someone wants to pay with a card. People think it's all free, and most aren't even aware that the merchant pays for it.

I think the FEP numbering/naming scheme is better, and could be adopted for NIPs: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fep#submitting-a-fep
In short: don't use numbers, use the first few characters of a hash of the (initial) title. Much better to have an agreed-upon scheme than random/custom IDs.

True. A single $3 coffee transaction can also be considered spam, at least by *some* people, compared to settling e.g. 500 different $3 transactions from a second layer in a single tx.
Similarly, that second-layer tx settling 500 coffee payments will also be considered spam by *some* people, because the same second layer may be used to trade monkey JPEGs or whatever the hell the market thinks is worth something at any given time.
To each their own, as long as they pay the fees.

How is that bizarre? Usually you have categories like "Work" or "Personal", and you can then easily identify events in your calendar based on the color, without having to read category names.

Every time I try to get reasonable amounts (e.g. ~100 USD) out of Cashu via Lightning, any app or Mint I try is giving me issues (every single time so far). Interestingly, every app will accept my incoming Lightning payments immediately and with zero issues, and will only fail the outgoing transactions.
Am I the only one experiencing this? I also tried sending directly to Kraken for good measure. Their node isn't exactly short on liquidity or channels. However, our own node also has plenty of incoming capacity for low amounts like these.

Yet another option for more technical users would be to do it with a dedicated sync program on their computer. For example, I automatically sync my Nostr events to my laptop in a background job once an hour. Would be rather easy to just post them to RS from there, too.
That said, I still like the original idea of it being as easy as flipping a switch in the account settings, so that I as a user don't have to worry about any of it.

I meant the/a Kosmos relay, but it could also be a more generic program that follows pubkeys on multiple relays.
From an operator's point of view, it's not fun having to connect to arbitrary other relays via WebSockets, and you have to build in a lot of fault tolerance to deal with timeouts and such.
Another option would be to do this directly in a Nostr client, of course, but then it wouldn't work with arbitrary clients. However, the RS-enabled client can sync all the events posted by other clients and back them up to RS once received.

The drama of the day is frankly just embarrassing. Either the screenshots are real, and thus all claims of lying simply criticize the article's wording, but not the substance. Or they're fake, and the journalist in question is intentionally spreading carefully fabricated misinformation. There is no other option, it's as simple as that.
If the latter were the case, then why is there still no explicit claim of the screenshots having been faked?

Yeah, so my idea (and rough plan) was for kosmos.org users to have anything they post to the Nostr relay be synced to their storage automatically, so then other apps could go and cross-post content from there (in addition to just having a syncable backup and potential cache there, too). As you say, the transports can be much more agnostic, as long as the original content is signed by someone's key.

It's a silly argument really. It inherently acknowledges that their problem is already solved by Nostr, but since they themselves are unwilling to simply use that and onboard people to their own relays and/or clients, the solution is not good enough for them and their peers. Here's the gist:
1. Someone requests a Lightning invoice via your Lightning address. The requests contains extra Nostr/Zap information: https://gitea.kosmos.org/kosmos/akkounts/src/branch/master/app/controllers/lnurlpay_controller.rb#L133-L160

Yeah, I opened your profile in my client and clicked the zap button. The payment itself is from any Lightning wallet, so it's only for the receiving part that you need a zap-compatible wallet/address.
