You mean BSD code itself? I hope there are strong policies to prevent it (for contributors to follow), otherwise sooner or later it will happen. Related: https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@skylark13/115842600214466205
But even if it doesn't affect (infect) the code, it is a huge net-negative for users trying to find information to troubleshoot issues by themselves.

I know you know this, just reiterating to further depress myself and others I guess: This is sadly not specific to BSD or any one piece of knowledge. AI models don't 'get' anything. They have no concept of knowing anything, and SEO pages generated by AI containing incorrect information are polluting the training sets of AI models, so nothing good can come of it.

Sorry I misinterpreted "why would anyone use Firefox over Chrome" as you saying people should use Chrome. I understand you were more saying people *would* use Chrome. Not necessarily by choice but because there are no good alternatives once you eliminate Firefox.

I am using Firefox because ad block is a security feature, and for now we can still disable all AI in Firefox (though it requires checking about 7 different settings stay disabled at every update). I agree this is not sustainable for most people. But for me it's what I prefer to do.
With how much AI has been pushed into Android, how long do you think it will take for it to be pushed into Chrome too? And probably no way to disable.
We really need another browser that respects its users.

Thanks for the suggestions and experiences, I really appreciate it! I'll look into OPNSense, it might be cool to go the full DIY route!
But as I mentioned to other commenters, I'd like the router to also be my Wifi AP with good range for my home, and that I'm not sure I can do well enough DIY to outperform a dedicated router+AP from a manufacturer who knows what they're doing... Any experience doing that?

Hey @npub1w2v…zxys folks! I might be looking for a router, and to separate my network infrastructure from my NAS (I had all eggs in the same basket) but still try and keep the maintenance burden low, I'd like to be able to run pi-hole, unbound, nginx and wireguard (at least that's what I use at the moment) on the router. I also don't have infinitely deep pockets :)
What do people suggest? I've seen some bananaPi stuff on AliExpress, but I think I could also run OpenWRT on a regular consumer router?

I really don't mean to butt in but I wanted to mention this kind of discussion is extremely fun to read. Starting with an AC clock then going into when some people got modern AC power. And to think it's on social media...
My grandparents' home had one of those recessed clock plugs up on the wall. I never thought twice about it. And I know @npub1yqw…ywz8 you're in Canada too (the prairies?) and it's fascinating to read about these things that were normal to us vs other places.

Thanks! This thread unlocked a very old memory and you resolved a mystery I've wondered about from time to time since I was a kid!

It's crazy, I wonder how that tree got there, so far from where it normally grows. It was pretty much alone and to my knowledge there were no others anywhere near... I can even point out where it was (might still be) on a satellite map of the area 🤣

wait... What did you call these berries? Saskatoons? Is that their real / well-known name?
There was a tree with these berries in front of my grand parents' place where I would spend a few weeks every summer when I was a kid / early teens. This was near Chicoutimi, Québec, but I never saw these anywhere else. I never knew their real name, we called them "wild blueberries" even though blueberry plants are low to the ground and these were in a tall tree. Don't really taste similar either.

If I can offer a bit of unsolicited advice:
I've taken to using WinUtil (someone suggested it here on Mastodon and it works well to disable / tweak most of what I care about to make Windows 11 usable)

It can disable copilot and recall, debloat/disable/"remove" edge, restore the classic context menu, and so on.
Lately I've set up like 3 different mini PCs and my initial install and setup procedure is getting pretty well polished haha

By curiosity, any idea what might be causing https://github.com/LucasGGamerM/moshidon/issues/536 and if it could be fixed easily? It happens pretty often (a few times a day) for me, just trying to read the previous posts in a thread by clicking on a reply post, for example.
