to be fair, I don't see how continuing to dump truckloads of money on corporations and patting ourselves on the backs saying "we're good lefty capitalists" is going to fix anything either
Let's spend a decade diverting that money to publicly run and operated public infrastructure projects (roads, public transit, bring back community swimming pools, parks etc) and directly to citizens (education, training, fire departments and EMS, rural hospitals, funding for small business owners like small grocers to have a chance to compete with megacorps, etc etc) and watch what happens.
More money will stay locally within communities, they'll flourish, people will have a slice of something to rely on in their retirements again...

MEANWHILE the commit was signed-off by 3 kernel developers and "reviewed" by one other

I just gave it a rather complex database schema of 37 tables in the form of a raw sql dump and told it to model it out, fully typed, write tests
it crunched through it, built out all my files/modules/structs, only used 20% of my total context to do it.
30 files changed, 3892 insertions(+)

my god... I'm running the Qwen 3.5-35B model on my 16GB card. How? better inference engines like I said, and models designed to use them.
With mixture of experts in this model I can offload those to CPU and only put the important stuff on the GPU. This leaves me with only 8GB used! Crank up my context to half a million, and it's still only using 10GB
I could crank up my context to 1 million or just run a bigger model yet.
And it works. And it's FAST. I'm getting better performance than I've ever had from Claude, OpenAI, or hosted Qwen.

as long as your communication protocol is decoupled from the network/transit so it could come over any medium without the other end needing anything more than just access to the same communication medium you can be pretty safe from censorship
if your protocol can validate providence of the data and prove nobody's lying because of math, you can trust it
as long as users are decoupled from a specific server (probably because they directly control a private key), users can be nomadic
if anyone can join the network, you're permissionless and the decentralization is not just technical but also social
at this point you probably have the basis for a protocol that properly fits the definition of "decentralized"
the overhead of this limits the use cases today, but maybe some day we'll look at all of this like a simple operation

I like your approach here. I am doing something similar (also with iBGP!) but didn't involve FIBs or pf; I wanted automatic failover at my firewall across multiple internet connections at home (fiber and backup 5G/LTE). Also my setup has the cloud VPS' static IP on my home VNET jail on a loopback -- I use arp proxy to make it routed over a Wireguard tunnel.
I may have to borrow some inspiration from yours to make it even better. I really don't like the mss clamping down to 1220 though, it's so wasteful... *sigh*

Oh yes, something was very wrong. I had just shat myself. But this evil olean makes shitting yourself sound almost like a regular fart, and had I not been particularly attentive, it could easily have gone unnoticed, I'm telling you. THAT's how utterly covert and evil this olean stuff is. What the fuck?! What if I'd gone out to hang with friends or gone for a drive, what then?
So I walk carefully to the bathroom and disrobe. before I even sit on the toilet, I wad paper and carefully wipe from the front. Sure enough, it was light brown, and had the texture of soft spackle. You fucking Pringle bastards.
I sat down and pushed a bit, and lo, out came a jet that I didnt even feel an urge for one minute earlier. It piled in the bowl like brown marshmallow fluff.
The problem rose when I tried to wipe. I went through a whole fucking roll of TP and could not get it all off me. So.
I jumped in the shower. Yep, its gross, but it had to be done. There I stood, water pouring down, cheeks spread, and using my own hand to make certain I'm clean.
That was when I discovered that after using my hand to wipe myself (before I soaped the area) my hand came back covered in some sort of transparent grease. It was so fucking foul. The grease made water bead off my hand. It was tacky too, and very difficult to manage.
So I grabbed the bar of saop and went to work.
You fucking Pringle bastards.
The bar of soap came away coated in grease as well, and would no longer wash. I had to turn the water to hot and massage the soap for five minutes to get it to the point where I could use it again. It took me an hour to get the fucking grease off my pucker. I shudder to think of what its doing INSIDE ME right now, but I will damned sure never eat that shit again.

the future is going to be whatever the hell you want it to be
but there are plenty of apps/tools that have never existed before because nobody thought it was a problem worth solving, or there isn't a good enough product-market-fit
now you can make custom tools pretty easily to solve almost any problem you have. I have a ton of things I've wished for but never had the time to build, and now I can have those things solved quite easily.
It's liberating.

it builds its own tools. I had it develop custom things in node and python. The Markdown just tells it how to use the tools it built and what they're for.

One thing I miss from MacOS is the built-in dictionary everywhere; it was part of the OS.
Well, I mostly want to use it in a browser.
*look up Firefox browser extensions for dictionaries*
they are all useless.
I open Qwen, tell it what I want and which dictionary API that I want to use.
60 seconds later it's done. It works great.

Getting to be something like 150 known independently operated DeltaChat Chatmail servers up and running, federating just fine. Many are completely private.

Currently showing only 93 servers. Filter out Tor because it's blocked in a lot of places and you're down to about 40 servers
DeltaChat ecosystem keeps growing. Others seem to be stagnating.
