@nprofile…8d0p @nprofile…gun3 @nprofile…f4ec @nprofile…c8pt @nprofile…ppje @nprofile…dey5 I never said that. A small amount of patches, some optional out-of-tree drivers e.g. for GPUs or bcachefs are not the same as Linux not even booting without a huge amount of patches.
Rule Nr. 1 in Linux is "Don't break userland". I guess halium wouldn't be needed if Android wouldn't break that rule, would it?

And those problems are no secret, I understand Googles decision. Still, with more effort it would be possible but why should they waste that efford? They wouldn't make more money so they don't do it.
But you are pedantic about Android being a Linux distro so I am pedantic that Linux does not run on the phones Android runs on which for me makes it a fork.

And just having the drivers out-of-tree doesn't make them more secure, does it? This doesn't make it a micro kernel, this is just a hack to avoid upstreaming and probably the main reason why Android is a fork and not just upstreaming everything (even if they do upstream a lot).

The drivers you need to boot and run GOS are not in the Linux kernel but in Android (userland?) so for me GOS is the best Android "distro" or whatever but not a Linux distro because Linux does not (yet) work on the devices GOS runs on.
As soon as the drivers are upstream I may agree but this is not yet the case.

But would you even be able to release the next version of GOS with a recent non-LTS mainline Linux kernel? Or would that be so much work and so many patches that it isn't a realistic task to do?

But this is such a useless discussion and I really don't get it why you start it that often.
And even if you say the amount of patches and re-branding involved does not fit your definition of fork that is still a useless/annoying discussion because people know what is meant.

@nprofile…f9sr @nprofile…l8vx well, sure, thats obvious. But if I unlock my good LUKS password, log in and lock the screen. Is it still easy to get to my data? I would guess it would be somehow possible to read the RAM and therefore my LUKS key by opening up the device but other than that?

@nprofile…q9yw ich frag mich warum die das überhaupt auf dem Weg versuchen. Technisch gesehen wäre es doch schlauer Google und Apple (und wenn wir schon dabei sind gleich noch Microsoft) zu zwingen den Regierungen Zugriff auf die Geräte zu geben... Dann könnten die auch alle Dateien überprüfen und nicht nur die, die verschickt werden und einzelne Apps könnten sich nicht wehren.
Und moralisch gesehen macht es auch keinen Unterschied mehr, tiefer als Chatkontrolle können die eh nicht mehr sinken...

I never used macros in #RustLang but I want to now and I don't get it. Is there something equivalent to C `define`?
All I tried still needs the context and I want to pass one variable to the macro but it should assume the other variables as given.
Example:
```
some_macro_magic square(x) {
count += 1;
x*x
}
let mut count = 0;
let result = square!(2);
assert_eq!(result, 4);
assert_eq!(count, 1);
```
Is this possible in #Rust ?
