Granted. And I wish this was true in the case of BIP-110.
My point is that we do not know. After 2017, many of us believed that nodes ultimately ruled the network. The BIP-110 episode calls that belief into question.
Miners were able to overrule a proposal supported by roughly 20% of node runners. Would they be able to overrule 75%? If so, what would that imply about Bitcoin's governance?

Is Bitcoin a Captured Project? Reflections After the BIP-110 Fiasco
The most important question in Bitcoin right now is whether it is a captured project. The short answer is: we do not know yet.
On the one hand, miners managed to ignore a change proposal that did not undergo URSF. Whether they colluded or not does not matter. The crucial point is that three mining pools could decide the fate of the network. That is scary as fuck.
On the other hand, BIP-110 was a minority soft fork supported by approximately 20% of nodes. Would miners have behaved differently if BIP-110 had managed to convince a majority of the network? We do not know, but that is also scary.
At this moment, I think a hard fork is a premature idea. Before unleashing this demon, we should figure out how to test the network and answer the question above: do nodes control the network? Would it matter, for example, if a majority of them supported BIP-110?
To do this, we need a BIP that can convince more users.
Apart from this, we should focus on:
1. Supporting the development of competitive and conservative node implementations. We have Knots. We have the Production Ready idea. That is a start.
2. Supporting the decentralisation of mining.
We should also thank the Roughnecks. They have fallen in battle, but they will remain legends.
For now, we should all return to the legacy chain and work on putting it to a new test. One that will allow us to find out whether node runners are at the wheel or not.

I didn’t mean “no one offers products/services for sats” literally. Many people already do, and I do too. I fully agree we should actively seek them out and pay them in sats.
That said, the broader point about breaking the vicious circle still stands. We need more bitcoiners accepting sats on the market to build real momentum.

It’s still early. We’re basically bootstrapping the Bitcoin bookstore business from scratch. The fiat competition is well-established and extremely convenient.
Still, we need to break the vicious circle:
No one offers books for sats →
because no one accepts sats for books →
because no one offers books for sats.
That’s why what you’re doing is essential — creating the option to buy books with sats.
The good news? It’s neither difficult nor expensive. Anyone can do it with little effort, while still using Amazon for the general no-coiner market.
Bitcoin authors should lead the way. That’s what I’m trying to say.

I didn't really like this translation so I worked a bit with Claude to produce a better one. Here it is along with some notes on the hardest translation challenges.
Fun Fact: Clause claims that the closing line, "Bujać — to my, panowie szlachta!" — is the single hardest line in the poem 😂

# A few notes on the hardest spots
"Ojczyznę szarpać deklinacją" (lit. "to tear/wrench the Fatherland through declension") — Tuwim is mocking propagandists who drag the word *Ojczyzna* (Fatherland) through every Polish grammatical case in speech after speech. English has no equivalent grammatical pun, so "drag the homeland through every case" keeps the legal/bureaucratic flavor of "case" as a faint echo, but the joke about *declension* specifically is untranslatable.
"Kiedy rozścierwi się, rozchami" — these are near-nonce words Tuwim coined from *ścierwo* (carrion/carcass) and *cham* (boor), describing the press's screaming headlines as something that rots and coarsens. I rendered it as "turn rank and coarse, like rotting meat" to keep the carrion image, though the deliberate ugliness of the invented Polish verbs themselves can't really be replicated.
"krwawica" — an old/dialect word for property or earnings gained through blood and sweat; it's not "blood money" (ill-gotten) but the opposite — what you've honestly bled for. "What your own blood earned" tries to hold both the literal and figurative sense together.
The closing line, "Bujać — to my, panowie szlachta!" — this is the single hardest line in the poem. *Panowie szlachta* (roughly "you noble lords/gentry") is an old, half-ironic form of address; *bujać* means to bluff, fib, or run a con. The line plays on an old self-mocking szlachta boast about their own swagger and bluffing — and Tuwim has the common man fling it back at the rulers as an accusation: *deceiving people is your specialty, not mine*. "Lying — that's our trade, my lords!" keeps the sarcastic borrowed voice, but the historical resonance of the phrase for a Polish reader (and the slight ambiguity of who "our" refers to) doesn't fully survive translation.
Form — the original is a single unbroken 40-line stretch in regular nine-syllable lines with alternating exact rhymes, built to sound like a speech or proclamation. I broke it into stanzas for English readability and didn't force a rhyme scheme, since chasing rhyme in English on top of this much dense, idiomatic content would have meant sacrificing accuracy — I prioritized the meaning, the register (deliberately crude and colloquial — "lout," "humbug," "con," "crooks"), and the forward-driving, indignant rhythm instead.

The Network Theory of Ethics
Here is the thesis I’ve been working on for some time. It deserves a treatise, and I am currently working on one. Still, I am posting it here on NOSTR because I know many of you will challenge it. And that is exactly what I need.
I’ve dubbed it "The Network Theory of Ethics". It claims the following:
1. Morality can be derived from physics.
2. More specifically, it is an emergent property of the social network structures that exist within a reality governed by the laws of thermodynamics.
3. Moral values arise when individuals (nodes within a social network) create and maintain the social fabric in a reality in which energy dissipates and in which the expenditure of energy is required to temporarily reduce entropy within the network.

I’ve analysed the LND recovery process on Umbrel step by step, based on the Lightning seed + Static Channel Backup (SCB) recovery model used by Umbrel.
I’m attaching notes covering the two main scenarios:
1. recovery on an existing Umbrel install, and
2. recovery after a full reinstall or sudden, unplanned hardware retirement.
If your Umbrel decides to stop cooperating one day, this is exactly what will happen during recovery — including the intentionally force‑closed channels and the wait for funds to reappear on‑chain after timelocks.
Knowing this in advance should make it much easier to prepare properly and spare some unnecessary stress.

Sure, the filters aren’t 100% effective. But can we agree that they might make it more difficult or costly to get that kind of content onto the blockchain? Plus, my own node isn’t relaying that content, so I’m not contributing to spreading it.
I’m not sure how the limited effectiveness of the filters supports the idea of removing them. It feels like a non-sequitur to me.

As I see it, no one in this discussion is actually for censorship. The debate is whether to keep or ditch the filters. Keeping the 40/80kb OP-RETURN filters as they are won’t lead to more censorship. Removing them will open the door to new risks. I just don’t see why we should take that risk.
I understand you believe the CP won’t come to the blockchain because (1) criminals have better tools and (2) Bitcoin isn’t great for hiding stuff. I’m not really convinced by those particular arguments. They don’t address the threat of deliberate state-level attack. Plus, I really wouldn’t want to relay or store CP with my node.

'The Ethics of Liberty' by Rothbard is a great read, even if you don’t agree with everything he writes. Although I am personally closer to Mises, Rothbard’s talent for rigorous logical reasoning is truly impressive.

Disclaimer: I apologise if this sounds like gibberish. Language is a blunt tool.
What is happening now?
And now... And now... And now... Second by second. Meditation is about the relentless noticing that all contents populating consciousness (images, sounds, sensations, thoughts) remain in a state of continuous change, whether we want it to or not.
Where is the silence?
Even in times of unrest and chaos, stillness is present and permeates everything. Seek out this silence, find it, and try to spend time within it. Use the silent space as a vantage point for observing and noticing whatever is happening now. And now...
Where am I? What am I? Who am I?
In the silent space, you may notice that, among other things, the Self is also present. It’s that feeling (contraction?) that you are you. It’s the part of you that wants or doesn’t want things, that desires and protests. It’s the part that refuses to let go. Notice it and return to the silence. And again. And again.
Everyone’s inner space is different. Please share your tips on how to practise.

Thanks for the Alby Hub’s Friends & Family feature! I used it today to set up a sub-account for a family member, which I connected to Alby Go. It’s perhaps the easiest way to onboard close contacts without relying on third-party custodial services.
That said, I would appreciate the following additional capabilities:
— A separate balance for the sub-account in the main account’s UI (currently, payments to the sub-account are merged with those of the main account and are indistinguishable)
— For the main account owner to spend from the sub-account’s balance, it should require deleting the sub-account (in this case, the balances should merge)
— An LN address for the sub-account
Additionally, I have not found a way to reconnect an existing sub-account to a new Alby Go instance. Is it possible to display the secret code again when the sub-account is already set up and running?
