Normies have a huge mentally-imposed barrier to anything new/different where the second anything goes wrong they give it up and want their Windows back.
Apple is the only company who could bypass this, take a guess on why.
The "culture" kind of rotted with the great Keffals/LFJ op to shutdown Kiwi Farms and the userbase there used it as a bunker for a while, along with poasties, Jim being banned on Twitter for a while, and then the Mastodon side trying to take over before being given their own reservation to be on (Bluesky). I unfortunately wasn't there for much of the old stuff, I literally tried to use SPC when it was a GS instance and it felt like me and a few friends were trying to force ourselves to use it.

Interesting effortpost dropped about institutional level internet censorship calling it the "closure of the internet". It's very tl;dr but it goes into detail what many of the top social media sites did from 2015-22, and breaks it down into two phases, the post Trump/Brexit era of 15-19, and the COVID lockdown era of 2020-22.
Also it tellingly mentions that it never ended, Twitter just dialed back and everyone else has the infrastructure in place.

@nprofile…l5m0 Well here's the thing, with testkits it's very pricey to even cheat. You need to spend a lot of money for a devkit/testkit and then be on the downlow because once you get caught, you're banned and you can't spoof like on the PS3 or use a keyvault like on the 360.
Oh and you need to use exploits to activate it, because after the Xbox Underground fiasco (look into it if you want a rabbit hole) where the wrong people found cheap Chinese XDK consoles and started leaking shit (they told people on AssemblerGames back in the day to not touch pnet), ALL the console companies started requiring activations with the mothership.
Sony for the most part locked their shit down with PSN and you cannot spoof firmware versions like on the PS3 to connect to PSN with a hacked console, you need to have a console with old firmware and that won't connect to PSN.

Kodak is just making the same stuff they made while they were at the peak of film technology, when they could afford to throw R&D at it because they assumed it would last forever. Lucky still had made film back when film was popular, so they were eventually able to restart C-41 with a not-half-bad film. Orwo/Wolfen is literally using old Agfa formulations from the 80s/early 90s tweaked some, and is having issues with anti-halation on their NC200 film. Harman has never made color film ever (they only sold BW film as Ilford) and they not only had to get engineers out of retirement, but the end result looks like dogshit and they're having to start making experimental films now to fund that venture.
Cameras too, Pentax also had to get engineers out of retirement to make the Pentax 17 who were explaining to the new ones "no you don't do this or that".
The new 35mm cameras are nowhere near the technological peak of the late 90s-mid 00s cameras as well, when they were cramming high tech around the film as a media. Even the lower end 35mm "plastic" SLRs are more feature packed than some new 35mm camera.

1/3 of Bluesky users delete their account. In a way, the same thing that played out in the political side of fedi plays out there daily.
The difference is with blocks and lists, everyone is at each other's throat and then posting a post asking "what the fuck, why are we at each others throat". I've seen how miserable it is checking up on someone you know and seeing how their TL is literally just an endless stream of "Dad, it's over bro". It's genuinely the worst place to talk about stuff.

Something else funny is how radicalized Bluesky users get. At least on Twitter you can smash like and "not interested" enough time and get some esoteric VINTAGE RETRO AESTHETICS and furry art on your TL.
On Bluesky, you can mark you're interested in that and get pumped 20+ posts about Trump, Elon Musk, the latest thing in the 15 minute news cycle, here's a bad thing, before getting to the meat and potatoes.
