I dont know what you mean "ignored", I imagine you mean that the mandates only happened after a considerable amount of political support was leveraged for it? So, the vaccines were politicized before they were mandated. If thats what you meant, then I see your point and am inclined to agree; but then we are talking about speech that was calling for all manner of force to be applied, mandates, forced injection, concentration camps, isolation etc... I don't think that applies to bitcoin as a tool to opt out of other systems, though if you support those violent measures to force bitcoin through then you would be making it political.

I would argue that something is political if it utilizes political (violence) means. The vaccine became political when attempts were made to force people to get it; letting people opt out is almost the definition of non-political. Controversial maybe, but I dont think bitcoin is political, fiat is political.

My synology 4 bay has served well, but its going to depend on what you are after. Frankly I appreciate the work it does in the background to keep my data whole, ive had enough trouble losing my kernel on linux and other bizarre issues to trust my own computer skills with doing it the hard way; I slot in a new drive, I assign it to the main pool through the UI, and it does everything else to configure it for raid 5.

Democracy is a no more just governmental structure than monarchy, both are revolts against your human rights. -Politicians enjoy ultimate influence over government, case and point you have congress persistently at its lowest approval rating of all time and yet they dont get voted out, individuals in congress enjoy even lower approval ratings, yet they still vote on bill after bill.
-Look at the obscene amounts of money our poloticians are worth, how do you make that on a relatively modest salary? Its legal for them to insider trade, just like its legal for the government to rob you or kidnap you, they have legal cover to do whatever they want to you.
-the tax code is designed to be impossible for plebians to figure out, tax breaks and credits change constantly and no one will tell you the truth unless you are paying them. While I dont think taxes are ever moral, and I think the rich are generally over taxed, the tax code is designed to grant the wealthy and politicially connected a way to dodge taxes.
These are all problems today with democracy, tomorrow the problems will be hyper inflation, endless war, and the tyanny of the mob voting to steal all your stuff and put your head on a pike. Of course, "democratic™" rarely means "democracy", it means *whatever I like and nothing I dont*; its amorphous, it changes based on the motivations of its user, there is no universifiable moral values that can be defined. There is only a vague idea about a social contract, something no one has signed, something that cannot be (re)produced, that cannot be signed, has no legal basis, and includes no instructions for what forms of aggression are, and are not permitted under it.
So, you can say monarchy is all these evil things, but its not obvious that democracy is preferable.

Of course, now if your government is responsible for terrorist attacks against you, with the intent of gaining your consent to a war, then your first action in self defense should be removing the government. In the case of certain members of the Israeli government, charges of treason and aiding/abetting terrorism are in order. I could care less what happens to hamas, but its worth pointing out that the israeli government has every incentive to continue supporting terrorism; the idea that these attacks on Gaza would, or are even designed to limit further terrorism seems doubtful.

Could you explain what hes saying here in more detail? It seems like the arguement is
1. Drivechains make miners more money so they are harder to bribe
2. Liquid could create MEV too, so its hypocritical to not accept MEV from drivechains.
Assuming thats accurate,
To 1, I assume we all accept the economic principle that prices fall to the marginal cost of production. If drivechains cause hash prices to fall, all that does is drive out miners that cant compete on MEV. That would make you feel very secure and "powerful" if you were the top pool operator, and that appears to be what Paul is referring too, but why that is a "good thing" eludes me. Again, miners arent getting bribed, they arent getting paid, they are directly collecting the fees because they will be building sidechain blocks. The idea that miners wouldnt jump at the idea to make more money just because they are making enough is thus an irrational conclusion, if they do not then they will be overtaken by a miner that will because of the affect on the hash price.
To 2, again, an arguement about something you dont like about bitcoin today doesnt justify aggrevating the situation. Pauls tendency to resort to these arguements is troubling, either drivechains are a good idea or they are not, when a hole gets poked in his game theory and he immediately starts pointing the finger at someone else it discredits him. At the very least he needs to do a better job defending his arguements, rather than this and the patronizing language from the first link. That aside, he says in-text that liquid hasnt implemented MEV as described, so evaluating that as an arguement is difficult.

I knew much less about the incentives and workings of bitcoin at the time, and what effect ctv would have. I was concerned about recursive vaults, which jeremy said were impossible, but I felt that should be subject to scrutiny/debate before just accepting it. I really dont like the way some of these devs conduct themselves though, trying to ram something like ctv through when many of us had never even heard of it can only be met with resistance.
We need a conference or podcast circuit for new proposals, everyone should be hearing the best arguements from all sides.

Sorry for the late response, I read it at your suggestion, I think all these points are argued against by shinobi in his recent episode with stephen livera.
The article presupposes that sidechain blocks will be built by proposers, rather than miners. The miners have an economic advantage in creating sidechain blocks because they are already bringing the hashpower, so they dont need to pay what the proposer would to get that block approved, winning a higher profit, so I would expect that the sidechain block production will be dominated by mining pools. Pools that have better tools to exract value from mining sidechains will dominate the mining industry, and make it unprofitable to mine without sidechain mining, let alone mining for anybody but the top pools.
The miners have an enhanced ability to reorg the sidechain too, and proposers lose their spent bitcoin in that case, but miners never needed to pay to create sidechain blocks because they mine it themselves.
You could say, as this article does, that every miner is engaged in finding these side hustles that effect the profitability of mining for everyone. Its not a *good* thing that mining companies are finding economies of scale or side gigs that screw with the economics of bitcoin, it causes miner centralization. We shouldnt look at that and step on the gas pedal, like "ah fuck it, lets just go full send because load shedding is a thing".
Further, these side hustles or tricks like having newer miners all revolve around having more hashing for less electricity. MEV presents a novel price incentive to mining that cant be compared to load shredding or mining on curtailed energy, because those grid issues are everywhere. Mining on ercot has been lucrative for iris, but eventually the texas grid will evolve to not need the miners and the incentives will evaporate, replaced by incentives posed by other grids like microgrids in africa.
When these discussions picked up the line was that it doesnt pose a risk, it seems clear that it does pose a risk. Maybe you consider the risk worth it, but I don't; it adds too many unknowns to the incentives around mining, the lack of clear explanation of why miners wouldnt create the sidechain blocks is the most obvious issue I see.

The current system where every user is a network node is not the intended configuration for large scale. That would be like every Usenet user runs their own NNTP server. The design supports letting users just be users. The more burden it is to run a node, the fewer nodes there will be. Those few nodes will be big server farms.

You are glossing over the social effects of dumping masses of immigrants in concentrated areas with no regard for the people living there; its the difference between you inviting someone to stay at your home with the promise that they are getting a job and will pay your generosity back and be self sufficient, and me dropping a van full of homeless people in your living room and saying "dont worry, the free market will figure it out".
The "free market" would necessarily imply property rights are being respected, which they arent at the level of public property existing, and they arent at the level of public property not being maintained in line with how you would treat your own private property. The mass migrations are in fact an act of aggression, because the property rights (at the latter level) of citizens are being violated the same way as if I violated your home. You wouldnt invite these people onto your property so how is it ok to invite them to public property?

I think that would be accelerationist in the statist direction. Thats like encouraging people to burn down cities and steal from stores, and saying we will get less government as a result; no, I think that just gives the government the political influence to expand its power. Mass immigration is a plot to destabalize society, as things get worse it justifies authoritarian measures, but those authoritarian measures will only really be used to remove intellectual critics of the state.
Where does the free market come in to fix anything when the government holds the monopoly on violence? If they want to destabalize society then they would shut down any attempt at private law enforcement.

Well the political party is just a political party so treat them as such. That said, the libertarian position is that public property can only exist through the theft of private property, so the government has a mandate to maintain that property inline with how it would be maintained as private property. In this context that would imply 1. Build a wall, as you would around your house in a bad neighborhood 2. Evict tresspassers 3. Establish invite only immigration proceedures 4. Stop engaging in activities that cause mass migration.
By comparison, red team and blue team have spent the last several decades overthrowing governments and starting civil wars in central/south america, africa, the middle east, and eastern europe. Red team has failed to enact stricter border security, and blue team has failed to enact better immigration policy, they both win votes by blaming their problems on the other side.
I would then conclude that the libertarian position is actually the only one that offers serious solutions to real problems.

There rai stones of yap had no industrial case yet were a functional money until their supply could be inflated. You can say its not real, even though it takes real work to create, but im skeptical that this matters. What about individual use case? I bought my vpn sub with bitcoin, there is no other feasable way to anonymously get a vpn subscription, thats useful to me.
Does regression really take precedence over monetary properties? With bitcoin i can send it across borders to someone ive never met, know that the transaction is secure, while preserving my privacy, and knowing that the quantities are a fraction of a fixed supply. Those qualities will never be replecated in fiat, they cant be copy/pasted to another shitcoin, and I cant see any way theyd ever be replecated in gold. Yet, none of that matters because I cant put it in a machine as a raw material, none of those other use cases matter compared to melting it down to make a computer chip?

I wouldnt call him a troll, his basis seems rooted in mises regression theorem, i dont agree with him but gold bugs are our closest cousins. Though he did seem to be confusing bitcoin with being a liability today, that one doesnt follow.

They couldnt get him on murder for hire because there was nothing there, and at least or or 2 of the agents that was after him were also convicted for good reason. The government doesnt just not prosecute you on something just because theyve already got you, they would have hit him with the broadside of the book if they were capable. The judgement against him literally cited his political leanings as justification for his sentence too, hes locked away for forever because they dont like people believing in freedom.

UTXOs today are as uniform as gold was before the minted coin, before which the gold could have been better traced to origin by its melt and form. Coinjoins and payjoins strip identifiable information out and can provide uniform outputs. Upgrades to the network will bring cross input signature aggregation, allowing these functions to be performed in a very decentralized manner.
You could say that the total supply of fiat is limited at any single moment, but I would argue this does not constitute scarce.
-Scarce would imply a marginal cost of production that fiat does not have, more can be created by political means.
-your definition of scarcity here would imply that nothing is *not* scarce, a jpeg may only have been copied to a million harddrives, but could be copied to 10 million more at essentially zero marginal cost.
Bitcoin on the other hand cannot be created without the marginal cost of production, determined by your computing power (linked to physical cost by your price of electricity) and the total computing power of the network. Further, even taking your arguement at face value, fiat still fails in its centralized issuance and control.
I would be highly skeptical that you could find a crypto that offers these points in better spades than bitcoin. Monero for instance could be said to be more private, but your privacy set, the total number of transactions yours is hidden behind, is limited compared to bitcoin. You would be better off using a coinjoin, a payjoin, or even liquid, compared to using cryptos that lack the economic activity to properly hide amongst the crowd. Further, any additional feature set you find in a crypto will sacrifice a more fundamental feature that bitcoin has, like decentralization, monero would not be able to maintain any sense of decentralization if there transaction volume did go up, because their scaling solution is allowing bigger blocks.

Having been created as opposed to found, the initial distribution is produced through a subsidy on recording transactions to the blockchain. Admittedly this isnt ideal, but of the ways to manage the initial distribution without a central authority this is probably the most honest, and provides a security budget for bootstrapping the network until fees alone can fund mining.
It is a ledger system, in that I agree, bitcoins are comprised of the record of transactions that created them, the UTXOs. However, there is an important distinction between this and traditional ledgers in that the total supply and record of transactions is continuously verified by anyone with a node.
Since there is no central issuer, no trusted counterparty, there is a provably scarce supply, and the asset itself can be held in self custody, I would argue its not possible for it to be a security.
As to defining a commodity, I think, and its not a crystalized definition:
-scarce
-uniform
-primary product
-no central issuance/control
-can be used in trade.
Fiat fails in all but the last; cryptos fail in their inability to resist a central issuance/control and scarcity; physical commodities like oil and gold pass for obvious reasons; bitcoin passes all of these too. I dont think I have ever seen a single perfect definition of a commodity, maybe you have one to cite, but classifications that categorically reject things because they dont manifest in the physical world seem logical prior to bitcoin, but with the advent of true digital scarcity its maybe worth revisiting.

This is based on the idea of bitcoin being a liability, a promise for some other item of value akin to a paper promise for gold. Bitcoin doesnt need a backing, it doesnt require reserve assets, it is the backing, its not a security or liability to anyone, it is the commodity itself. Now, of course you believe in regression, so you could argue bitcoin has no value of its own, but I dont think you could argue that it is a security.

The asbestos, the energy efficiency, the cost of a controlled demolition under legal methods, the ability to collect insurance, and more ive heard. This film only briefly covered the incentives, it was more about the technical analysis of how the planes manuvered, the characteristics of the collapses etc.
Ill need to find another one that goes in depth on the characters involved if you have any recommendations.

So I finished watching september - 11 the new pearl harbor (its 5 hours worth watching). My honest takeaway was "was bin laden in on 9-11?". Seems kind of silly to say, we have the writings of bin laden saying why they attacked the towers, we have the al queda declaration of war, yet something doesnt seem right. The movie lays out a compelling enough case that not only was a controlled demolition possible, not only probable, but that it would have been seemingly impossible to have happened any other way.
Bin laden had a lot of creepy family connections that I cant speak much too, and he was trained by the CIA. But theres more, Scott Horton has repeatedly detailed how the US basically let Bin Laden escape to Pakistan, and how the Taliban was ready to give up Bin Laden and help combat Al Queda, the natural conclusion I originally came to was they wanted a war in Afghanistan for other purposes; what if its deeper than that?
Maybe, its a thought, Bin Laden was our asset and on board with the CIA to carry out 9-11, and we let him escape because his survival justified the war. At some point he became politically inconvenient so we had him killed to tie up loose ends.
