last time I checked no one was actually sure how far it's physically possible to scale quantum chips up. as in not even knowing what the fundamental physical limits might be. altho I haven't really been following along for the past couple of years. do we have any non-toy examples of these chips yet?

as you point out, the maximum damages that could be inflicted via social media is presumably fairly limited. I think it would take going after "real" targets to have a chance of being considered "unrest" let alone "(civil)war"

the drug is long since out of your system. the issue is twofold. that some medications (antidepressants are one of them) tend to cause long term changes in your brain. this is how they work after all
the second issue is specific to SSRIs and often not known by medical professionals. they work by inducing epigenetic changes (ie long term regulation of gene expression). some of those changes will revert quickly but some will take many years or may even be with you for life

meth labs happened, they put pseudoephedrine behind the counter (requires photo id to purchase), OTC was replaced with the new stuff that they swore worked just as well. it didn't work nearly as well (because of course it didn't). the research showed it was shitty in comparison. they denied it was shitty. now nearly 20 years later they're finally admitting that, yeah, it doesn't really work very well at all

this is a somewhat different angle than I've heard from the other people who I've engaged with on this topic. a few questions
* why can't periodically withholding nitrogen fertilizer solve this
* why can't these microorganisms be bread to withstand the nitrogen
* how are you proposing to feed the current world population without the use of nitrogen fixation

don't mistake me for someone who denies the actual science. I object to the politics. unfortunately the science itself is increasingly politicized
my read of "the mounting evidence" is that at this point things are going to be changing one way or another and we're just along for the ride. I give it good odds that the permafrost goes and makes all of our efforts to curb carbon emissions look like a drop in the bucket

once again, you need to stop and actually run the numbers. not just parrot lines you've been fed by the media. nitrogen fixation is an essential part of modern life. a substantial fraction of the world population would perish if we discontinued its use. to the best of my knowledge we are well past the carrying capacity of the planet without it
I'll also note that for someone so worried about the expansion of farmland (your objection to biofuel) it's interesting that you're also opposed to nitrogen fertilizers given that they very significantly increase productivity per unit area

I'll grant you that there are also plenty of people who hold opposing political views to yours who agree with you on this particular point. I also (currently) believe them to be wrong. I'm open to learning but I've yet to encounter a convincing explanation for why it's an inevitable outcome and why it can't be fixed
anyway, it's irrelevant. as I previously noted we've all got to eat and the only solution I'm aware of for that is modern agriculture (unless your goal is to kill off a substantial portion of the population)

when the grid is often fossil fuel based? not at all. it's less efficient to burn natural gas, transmit, charge, and then discharge than it is to simply burn petroleum on site. and that's before you get into accounting for the various costs of lithium mining

the entire issue with petroleum is supposed to be the extraction of carbon from under the ground. so ... just don't do that, right? produce it via industrial process. you can use biomass or even atmospheric CO2 as the input
stop worrying about gas mileage. stop the expensive and environmentally destructive conversion to EVs. stop incentivizing throwing away perfectly good vehicles. and as far as batteries go petroleum has significantly better energy density than any of the other viable options (also quite a bit safer than lithium)

1. build out a majority nuclear grid
2. manufacture synthetic petroleum using nuclear power. this step contributes to solving the whole "dealing with demand spikes" thing
2a. (bonus) fixate nitrogen using nuclear power. helps with demand spikes
2b. (bonus) desalinate ocean water using nuclear power. helps with demand spikes
3. all supposed issues have now been addressed. farming is now carbon neutral. gas engines are now carbon neutral. LA and the gulf coast can now stop worrying about water security. etc etc
you can still have your EV if you want, it will be near zero carbon emission in this scenario. as opposed to right now, where EVs are often powered in significant part by fossil fuels. which is quite a bit worse in terms of both carbon release, pollution, and environmental impact due to mining than if you'd just kept using gas (but we're sAvINg tHE pLAnEt!)
