Practical magic is brilliant. Was one of the first films I watched with offspring when she started feeling ready for slightly scary stuff.

There have been a few bodies buried with weapons who were assumed to be male but on closer inspection turned out to be female. I assume that's what is meant here. But that's not evidence of prehistoric transgenderism, it's just evidence that archaeologists can make sexist assumptions as well as any other profession.

I'm sure men can grasp, in theory, that traditional roles means less income. However, in practice a lot of them seem to expect their wives/girlfriends to work full time whilst also maintaining a more traditional (i.e. the woman does everything) set up at home. A quick read through of relationships posts on reddit or mumsnet is enough to confirm that plenty men think this way.

In the UK, people tend to lie to pollsters when they are planning to vote conservative. There have been several elections where the polls wrongly predicted labour would win because of this.
But I was mostly thinking of the poll where men said they wouldn't commit rape, but when the question was re-worded, most admitted they would.
I suspect most progressive men would have a knee-jerk response to a question that used the phrase 'traditional gender roles'. But asking them how often they clean the toilet, or would they want to live with a woman who earns more than they do or expects them to do the housework might have yielded different responses.

This just brought back a memory. When I was around 7, my parents had a friend with a daughter the same age as me who we used to see maybe once every 6 weeks or so. One time, we made witches potion in the garden and poured it into a big jar and hid it under her bed, because we thought it would improve with age, or something! The next time we went back to visit, it was still there with a huge ball of furry grey mold growing on top, and little jellyish lumps floating in the soup. It was disgusting and glorious in equal measures!

The BBC used to go to ridiculous lengths with this. There used to be a kids show called Blue Peter where they would show you how to make things out of empty bottles and toilet roll tubes. They were not allowed to say 'sellotape' as that would have been advertising a specific brand, so they always called it 'sticky backed plastic'. Even as a 5-year-old I thought that sounded odd.

If my dog was fluffier, I might try this! He's getting on and won't be around forever, so it would be nice to have a little part of him when he's gone.
I do think people who try to sell things made from their pets' hair are rather odd. You used to see those on Regretsy sometimes. I think the worst offender had even included some nail clippings in her cat hair doily monstrosity. It looked like something you might fish out of a drain!

It was £2 a ball, and it's pure wool! If I had enough to double up and still get a jumper or a cardigan, I'd probably try it. But I am not small so don't think there would be quite enough. I agree about making one item that uses most/all of it.
Might watch a few videos for I aspiration while I finish the cake blanket.

I'm thinking maybe a crocheted cardi, except all the patterns I have are for dk and this is 4ply. Could also make a bloody massive shawl. Think I saw a pattern for one with a hood, which looked quite interesting.
I've made so many mittens this year that more mittens are not an option.

It's not short rows, though. You knit a sort of upside-down T shape and then sew it up. Happy to send you a copy if you want to try doing it that way instead. It's adult size but chunky, so stitch numbers might not be too different from little kid size DK.

How important is it that the hood have shaping? The easiest way to do a hood is just one big rectangle sewn shut across the top. This makes the hood pointy which can look a bit odd, but kids generally look really cute in slightly odd stuff!
If you want the shaping, my advice would be to follow the pattern to the letter without worrying about HOW it's going to work. If the pattern writer knows what they are doing, and the pattern has been tested by others before publication, then it will work, and you will probably understand the HOW much better once you've actually done it.

Unless you're knitting with silk, which somehow is cool in summer and warm in winter. The only short sleeved knit I own is recycled sari silk, and it's surprisingly comfortable all year round.

I used to have these too. They mostly went away after my therapist encouraged me to write down everything that had happened to me and keep a journal of my feelings about it. I've never been into diaries and journals, so I felt a bit stupid and self conscious doing it, but it did help. (Disclaimer: might work better if you are in therapy and have someone to talk to about any knew feelings thrown up by the process)

I've just read the instructions, and the only thing you would need to do differently to dye a ball of yarn would be to omit the stirring, because wet+heat+agitation=felt! Just wear rubber gloves and gently submerge the wool so that the dye can soak into all of it, and be very gentle when you rinse for the same reason.
To get just a tiny hint of purple to take away some of the brightness, you could either use less dye than instructed, leave it in for less time, or put the yellow in after you have used the dye to dye something else as most of the pigment will have been already used.

Ok. 100% wool is good. If your dye includes mordant/dye fix, or if you're making something you don't ever intend to wash, dyeing will be easier than you think.

If these are pure wool (or other natural fibre) then you could maybe dye the bright one to make it fit better with the others. Nettles would add a little brown/green, which might make it go better with the other colours. Kool aid is easier as you don't need mordant. I think a little bit of grape flavour would dull the bright yellow.

Same thing according to Mayo Clinic.
My youngest had it as a baby and her eyes got so gungy that we had to wash the crust away with warm water just so she could open her eyes after a nap. It was bloody miserable. I've always though 'pink eye' makes it sound unreasonably nice, like those white rabbits whose eyes look red!
