Being a leftie who loves fountain pens can be challenging. You've just written a beautiful essay on the left page in your nice Tomoe River notebook, you continue on the right page.... Smudges everywhere as your writing hand moves over what you just wrote.
To prevent this, I'm experimenting with filling my notebook from the back, writing on the right page first, then left. It feels a little awkward but I'm hoping that's just because it is new. Anyone else tried this?

can recommend. Their online shop is a bit clunky but it's got lots of interesting stock, at decent prices. I've ordered with them several times and delivery was always speedy. #FountainPen

I went the other way: started with that converter, now using a syringe to refill cartridges. For me it wasn't about capacity though, but more that I seem to make less of a mess with syringe. #FountainPen

the pen I currently carry everywhere is a Recife Traveller. Sturdy, screw on cap so less likely to leak (in my mind), and not so expensive that I worry about breaking or losing it. It's also quite a dry writer, an advantage when you want to jot something down quickly. #FountainPen

thanks, good to know! I've got the opportunity to try the pen soon before I buy, will definitely pay attention to the weight. on the whole I tend to prefer a heavier #FountainPen so might be less of an issue for me. That said with so many good pens to choose from I'd rather buy something I'll actually make use of 😁

it seems to be less of a problem with thicker paper like Clairefontaine or Leuchtturm1917. Though admittedly I only tried Tomoe River once briefly. As for inks, I usually use various flavours of Iroshizuku, which I think are relatively fast drying?
I may give Tomoe River another try, I've got a small blank somewhere still, perhaps my initial impression was wrong .

that looks very nice, and basically exactly what I need, thanks! The only problem for me (special snowflake that I am) is that, being a leftie, Tomoe River paper is not easy to use - it has higher drying times so I tend to smudge a lot...

Question for #NewZealand #FountainPen users: I'm looking for B6 or A6 notebooks with dotted white paper, fountain pen friendlyobviously, but having no luck. Closest I can find is Leuchtturm1917, but that paper is cream/ivory, not white. Is what I want even available anywhere?

While I like their looks and how they hold in the hand, I'm not loving my Jinhao #FountainPen nibs. The fine nib (on my 500) is really scratchy, though it seems to put down enough ink. And even the medium nib (on my x450), while smoother than the fine one, is nowhere near as smooth as my Pilot MR1 medium nibs. Do I have duds or is this simply to be expected for such relatively cheap pens?

I'm all for bashing Google, but in this case I'm not sure what you're complaining about to be honest. The result seems spot on given what you asked for.
