A while back, Microsoft, complying with a demand by the US government, locked the account of a worker at the International Criminal Court, because, reasons.

Learned helplessness?
Age has taught me that there are some things that no matter how vile, are just inevitable, and there are hard limits on how much one can do about them. When you have expended tons of energy and emotion on something only to see it revert each time, you start picking your fights to only those where you can make a difference.

Every time I go through the job application process, I am freshly reminded how dumb it is and how HR cocoons itself from ever knowing how bad their processes are.
Like CVS is looking for a Knowledge Management person

It's a bit of a cheat bc tbh VERY few people can list likes or dislikes beyond 3-5, so by 8 they are really struggling
But ok, they list the standard stuff - border, trans people, libs, cost of living, cost of healthcare, government, libs again, etc
Then I show them the top ten things that put people their age, sex, and location in the ED/ICU or morgue
Those lists almost never line up

That is really good advice.
I have found a frustrating lack of traction there myself, but I bet many will have better luck.
I have generally found that they actually don't know what they want done or what would make their lives better, and when they do, it is very often so unworldly that you could never fix it.
Something I have done with some people is ask them to list the top ten things that they think are threats to life/health

Now I feel compelled to tell you a story
The regimental staff or "boneheads" as they were affectionately known, had a shitty job. It was an air base, and almost everyone else was a skilled tradesperson, or were groundcrew, or pilots. So at best of times, the boneheads felt a little out.
Once in a while, they got revenge by forcing us to be in a parade for some old geezer retiring or something, and they would also want fresh whitewash on the rocks etc. But usually that backfired

If you are a teacher with a sign in your classroom that says "Everyone is welcome here", don't resign if your admin says to take it down
Rather eat up their time in a long string of meetings to understand if it was the material, the font, the size, the ink color, ... until, they are like "OH FFS! TAKE DOWN THE SIGN!"
Then replace it with a bigger sign with bold letters that says "No One is welcome here"

I hear you, but I think we are long passed that milestone.
At this point, the only thing that stops the use of LLMs in daily life, including the practice of medicine, is if the economics of AI collapses. Like none of these things are earning their keep yet, and they are burning through investor funding at a rapid clip.
But banning the use is at this point futile, and IMHO we should focus on teaching people what LLMs can and can't do, and how to test validity

In every test, the human said she did
This is because humans CAN do inferential reasoning, and the LLM can't
It often LOOKS exactly like it is reasoning (first example), but actually it isn't

Here is an exchange I had with TailWind (TW) an AI tool.
So that looks like the AI is reasoning, but it isn't. We know that it is summarizing and doing next-word probability responses. So, something we KNOW isn't reasoning, sure as heck will look like it, and this is increasingly going to be the challenge with working with AI - it seems to be reasoning and intelligent when it is very much not

Down here, we got what we have now because about ten million people who would have normally voted for Harris, stayed home or threw their vote to the wind. That's what made the difference, people didn't vote because reasons, and NO reason was actually worth the dumpster inferno we now have
