My calendars from Thursday closed today for a bit over 8%. Even with the wide swings this morning, the trade never got into trouble. The IV spike kept the trade in a good position, then the rise helped close it. A roller coaster to be sure, but it was quite resilient.

I don’t think that’s the point. If you aren’t a citizen you should have to show your legal residency status. With all of the KYC requirements to open a bank account in the US, I’m shocked this isn’t already happening.

It’s only been since the 80s that skaters (i.e. not goalies) have been required to wear helmets. And whenever they implement a rule like that it’s only for new players, the rest are grandfathered. Rod Langway was the last player in the NHL to play without a helmet.
It’s a cultural thing in the NHL. Serious head injuries aren’t as common as other collision sports with the current helmet s most are cuts, bruises, nose breaks and, of course, the stereotypical front teeth.
Besides, how do you punch a guy in the jaw if there’s a cage there? That’s why goalie fights are rare and kind of funny.

I went ahead of just closed the fly/calendar combo from a couple weeks ago. After all of the adjusting, I'm good with just taking a small 4.5% profit and moving on.

I don’t blame him for getting a benefactor for his nostr work, but I get the sense he’d be doing that even without the backing. It’s as much about his excitement for the project with him. I also guess he hasn’t pissed off most of the nostr world like he did on the Fedi world. :)

I think so. Alex is all aboard the nostr train these days. Sad as I still run it on my instance. Not sure how easy it would be to move to another project without losing everything. Maybe Pleroma since the backend codebases are similar?
Too bad because I really like the front soapbox front end. It seems to be working well so far.

TV? Who said you need that? Do you have a screen? That’s all you need. What’s a TV these days anyway? It just a screen with HDMI ports...Nothing special. But you don’t even need a monitor.
The antenna runs into a box that streams to any device on your network. There are a ton of them out there. Some can even use your plex server to control it or the box will have an app to do it.
I’m using HDHomeRun but there are lots of them out there. If done correctly it should cost 3-figures. Cheap compared to most services in terms of payback.
It won’t get you everything. But the big ones tend to be there. But even if you only use it a couple times a year, it still works.
The alternative is to buy one month of, say, Sling then cancel. Grab a new email address to get the ”new customer“ discount. I’ve done this as well for stuff like ESPN when my hockey team made it past the first round of the playoffs.

Probably not. It was an agreement between first world countries to have a minimum corporate tax rate on large multi-national companies.
While I'm not a fan of it, I doubt any of us are directly impacted.

I was trying to exit my Nov21/25 calendar/diagonal combo but I put in the wrong order. I did close the Nov21 shorts, but I sold to open 3 calls at 6830 in Nov25. So I now have a small call vertical that I will try to close tomorrow.

On the sep26/30 cals I rolled 2 of my lower calendars up to 6550P. I cut my deltas and get more upside room without flipping the deltas to long. I may have to tweak the other calendars as well..

With some inflation news coming out over the next couple of days, I rolled up the last 2 shorts of my diagonal to return it to a calendar at 6460C. This cut my position deltas by about half on that trade. The other calendars are fine for now.

Well, the market came back so I got whipsawed on the trade I closed earlier. But I went back in a bit smaller and a bit narrower doing a 4-lot in the same expiration with the shorts only 4 days further out.
There's always another trade...as long as you practice good risk management.

With the move up today, I tried to close out my calendars for near break even to reposition, but they weren't taking the order so I adjusted by adding a put calendar at 6490P. This gives me room on the upside and cuts my position deltas down without them going long.

I re-opened the previous calendar from last week, a bit higher (6380C) and one smaller (4-lot vs 5). Since IV came down pretty well today, I'm good going long vega again. Had we stayed up, I'd be looking to be short vega.

As we end the week, I closed my remaining trade that I opened yesterday for a small win (a bit over 1%). With the move we had today, I'm happy just taking the small win and re-entering next week. This is a part of my risk management process. Take the small win and move on.

In addition I rolled 3 of the shorts on my newer calendars (Aug22/26) down 5 points, cutting my position deltas in half. I may roll the other 2 down if we keep going down today.

Well...there's a bit of tariff volatility. I closed my older calendars (Aug15/19) for 7%. I could have waited it out, but I'd like to take it off the table to lower my overall risk today.

With the Fed news pit of the way, I put on a new 22-day calendar (5-lot) in SPX at 6320C. These below the money calendars have been pretty resilient so I'm sticking with them.

We are definitely in an up trend at the moment and that makes range-bound trading a bit more work. I've had a really good string of calendar trades for the last couple months, but I did take loss on one this week, breaking my streak. But not to be deterred, I put on another one as well. Good lessons here about risk management and what goes into that.

Sure, with insurance paying the bulk of it. When you consider that they are required to treat anyone that comes in through the ER, that cost has to be made up somehow. That bill had an ER charge. That always adds cost vs something scheduled.
As an example, a few years ago I had surgery and spent 1 night in a hospital. List price was about $60k. Insurance covered the vast majority, I paid my out of pocket max for the year at around $4K…it could have been less had I paid more of that max earlier in the year. The rest of the year was, essentially, free for me post surgery. Had I not used insurance, they would have likely cut that in half. Using insurance adds significantly to the costs…people to work with them and the fact that they get paid months later (carry costs). But the bigger point here was that it was scheduled and not an emergency. Big cost difference.
Is the system perfect? Of course not. Are there issues? Yep. But that is true everywhere. Every system has pluses and minuses. Cost vs service vs access. Increase one and it has an effect on the other 2.

This is all pre-insurance. They won’t get anything near that.
The game goes a bit like this. The insurance folks want to show value to their noses that they are “saving the company money”. The bigger the bill, the more levels of approval, each one wanting to show the same “value”. So the only way to get a reasonable fee from them is to make list prices really high so the insurance folks can show a big “savings” to management. They’ll likely end up getting about 25% of that price.

Looks like we're going to close near my expiration breakeven so I added 1 put calendar to the upside. It gives some more upside room and cuts my deltas without flipping them positive.

I closed my older calendars (Aug8/12) for a max loss of 14.5% I could have stayed in and fought, but I just didn't like the risk today. I'd rather just close it and move on before the loss gets worse. Of course, that means we'll pull back today and it would have been fine, but that's what risk management is about...trying to not to guess and just managing the trade in front of you.

With the continued up move I added 2 calendars to my calendars from last week. The goal is to cut my position deltas and get some more upsdie room.
The calendars from Monday are still fine.

I put on a new 5-lot SPX calendar 25 days out on the shorts, 4 days further out on the longs at 6275C. I still like this trade as it's been resilient in this market. But we shall see.
The calendars from last week are still doing well.
