Lets imagine the ETFs claim to hold 1 million bitcoin. today.
Now lets say in 5 years they claim to hold 5 million bitcoin, but really only hold 2.5 million. How will we prove how many coins the ETFs hold? Until the ETFs subject themselves to proof of reserves (which they will of course refuse as they do today), they can claim whatever they want.
Now, if they claim to have 22 million bitcoin, that is a different story. But they can dilute the market substantially without getting to obscene numbers like that, just playing in the sub 10 million bitcoin paper game.
I'm not saying this is happening. But it could. And we would be just as vulnerable to it as gold.

hardest part of using it (for me) is having my sms now go unencrypted because my contacts (personal and business) don't use signal.

Bitcoin is a money. Money is a fictitious thing that is exchanged for real world goods/services.
Today, 99.99% of goods/services that humans need are priced in fiat currency (not in bitcoin/sats).
Therefore, the exchange value of a bitcoin to a dollar is the best approximation of the exchange value of a bitcoin to a good/service that a human needs.
That is why the dollar (or other fiat) exchange value of a bitcoin is important, it tells you the value of your money to exchange for a good/service.
For those that can't follow the above logic, imagine one bitcoin was worth 1 USD tomorrow and that 1 banana costs 1 USD. Now, all the bitcoin in the world is worth 21 million bananas. Which is not a lot. As in, a failed money for anyone who chose to store their wealth in it.

I'm not sure I understand the question?
I think Georgie and Mamdani are wrong in this thinking. My takeaway (and perhaps Luke's point) is that even a popularish republican US president that didn't want to follow free-market principles was wrong.
Also, not sure we've had a free-market in America for decades. Different politicians just tilt the playing field in favor of different beneficiaries/lobbyists/bribers.

These are things people often say who got in early.
For someone who bought bitcoin 4 years ago and has not kept up with inflation, it hurts. Particularly in a time when many other investments have increased substantially on a relative basis.
Bitcoiners are great at rejoicing/dunking on people when bitcoin is rising relative to other assets. But then when price action is poor, the comment is "I don't care about the price"
Its kind of silly. The purchasing power of a money (or an investment) is one of it's most important qualities given the money can't be used for anything other than trade for a good/service that a human actually needs.
There is a reason we celebrate the price going up dramatically. It is OK to be sad when the opposite happens and shiny rocks destroy bitcoin performance 1 year.
