We are en-route to Penticton for the Canadian Avalanche Association's spring conference (a sure sign of early summer swapping ski boots for sandals). We stopped off this morning for a quick ramble around the Cranberry Marsh in Valemount. There are 100s of feathered friends, fresh green leaves, and snowy peaks to enjoy on an easy stroll. Worth a ramble if you are in the area!

If you haven't followed Canadian recently there have been many greasy plots afoot. The current ruling liberals recently went from a minority to majority government by 'coercing' members of the opposition to join their party. After this they recently passed a motion to make their party majorities on all government committees so legislation can be breezed through with few delays. Dark days ahead!

Back from a great day trip yesterday in the Robson Valley up to Colley Lakes (above the Porcupine Cabin). Great ridgecrest hiking and wide reaching views after clambering up the rocky route!

We were helping out with a volunteer repair project this week at the Ralph Forster Hut on Mount Robson. Built in 1970, this is a mountaineers hut for parties climbing Mount Robson, and a spectacular place worthy of preserving. Thanks to all involved, hopefully the hut will be a shelter to climbers for years to come!

Yesterday the Berg Lake Trail in Mount Robson Provincial Park re-opened fully for the first since 2021. Well done BC Parks with great new bridges, re-routes, and other upgrades to this awesome area!

Always a striking difference this time of year between the teal glacial water of the mighty Athabasca River and the non-glacially fed Miette River. The Athabasca is the largest river system in Jasper National Park and empties into the Arctic Ocean!

This has been a very challenging season for everyone in the #Jasper region. While it is great to see residents and business owners returning to homes in the east side of town our hearts go out to our friends and colleagues who have no place to return to.
We have been keeping busy, re-directing our guided backpacking adventures to other areas such as Willmore Wilderness and Mount Robson Provincial Parks. Through showers and sun we have had great views and exceptional adventures for guide and guest alike. As August draws to a close we look forward to our last few trips of the season and starting to plan for adventures to come in Summer 2025.

Before this last storm cycle the Jasper Townsite had great sundog viewing. Sundog (or parhelion) are pairs of rainbow circles or arcs that appear on either side of the sun from cirrostratus or moist valley clouds (and can often foretell stormy weather soon!). #MyJasper

Nestled near the shore of the Athabasca River east of town sits the Madeline and Ewan Moberly Homestead (which is a peaceful place particularly in the winter!). The cabins were originally built and occupied in 1903 and predated Jasper National Park! #MyJasper #CanadianRockies
