Google Quantum AI published a paper yesterday reducing by ~20x the estimated number of physical qubits needed to break the cryptography that protects Bitcoin. It would take ~500,000 physical qubits to execute the attack in minutes.
Scary headline. But the most powerful quantum computer in the world today—Google’s own Willow—has 105 qubits. The gap between 105 and 500,000 is not linear; it’s exponentially complex in engineering terms. The paper itself states that such a machine does not exist.
What the coverage ignores:
Elliptic curve cryptography doesn’t protect just Bitcoin. It protects the global banking system, SWIFT, stock exchanges, military communications, every HTTPS website on the planet. If a quantum computer breaks Bitcoin, it breaks everything. The difference is that centralized systems can deploy silent patches. Bitcoin requires consensus—it’s slower, but transparent and auditable.
And Bitcoin is already preparing. BIP 360 has been accepted into the official repository, with a functional implementation on testnet using post-quantum Dilithium signatures (NIST standard), 50+ miners, 100,000+ blocks, and an active community of 100+ cryptographers. The co-author of BIP 360 estimates ~7 years for full migration. Google itself is racing to migrate its systems by 2029—not because the threat is imminent, but because preparation takes time. Bitcoin is on the same path.
A detail few mentioned: the paper’s co-author is Justin Drake, a researcher at the Ethereum Foundation. Vitalik Buterin has already published a post-quantum roadmap for Ethereum and publicly reinforced the urgency. Nothing against it, but it’s worth noting: those competing for second place have an incentive to highlight weaknesses in the first. The paper is legitimate. The narrative amplification isn’t always.
The market understood. #Bitcoin is up +3% in the last 24 hours, marking a third consecutive day of gains, while “quantum-resistant” tokens pumped 50%. The pattern repeats: apocalyptic headlines, memecoins ride the hype, and Bitcoin keeps doing what it has always done.
Post-quantum cryptography is an engineering problem with a known solution. What doesn’t have a known solution is printing money infinitely and expecting nothing to happen.

January 11, 2009: Jason Finney heard the machines humming in the attic.
The boy was forbidden to go up there when his father’s computers, Hal’s, were turned on.
That night, his dad had an important mission: to receive the first #Bitcoin transaction in history.

Jason was 26 years old when, on a Saturday—January 10, 2009—his father fired up the machines and sent a tweet from the attic that would go down in history.
#Bitcoin had barely been launched, and Hal Finney had already downloaded the software and was mining coins at home.
It was no coincidence.

Harold Thomas Finney II was the perfect figure to receive Satoshi Nakamoto’s torch 🗽
He was one of the first employees of the PGP Corporation.
In 2004, he created a system of reusable proof-of-work. He was also an active participant on the mailing list where Satoshi announced #BTC.

Hal and Fran Finney had two children.
The kids grew up immersed in technology. They had home internet as early as 1991.
Their father was a video game developer who became a cypherpunk activist.
But even by that household’s standards… Hal’s recent obsession was curious.

When Satoshi released the software, Hal rushed to install it, helped fix bugs, and made the famous prediction that “a coin could eventually be worth $10M.”
He began mining.
In January 2009, that attic was humming day and night. Hal was excited.
In early 2009, Jason noticed that his father’s computer processor was running 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at full speed. “He mentioned that he was helping someone test a kind of prototype for an online money system. That’s how he saw it. It wasn’t real—it was a test for a prototype.”
More specifically, this test was the receipt of the first Bitcoin transaction by Hal. Although it was just another step in the process for him, Hal’s role would forever secure him a place in the annals of cryptography around the world.
Two days after the famous tweet, Hal received the first transaction in history:
10 BTC directly from Satoshi Nakamoto.

The toy took off. The noise in the attic turned into money.
When #BTC hit $1, Hal gave exotic Christmas gifts to the whole family—

But he didn’t get to enjoy the rewards of his pioneering role. Everything was about to change.

Every genius carries a cross.
Hal Finney had ALS—a degenerative disease that, between 2011 and 2013, impaired his speech and movement.
The Finney attic fell silent.

Hal had a project to improve a wallet, which he carried forward as far as he could.
When he could no longer type, Hal built a device that allowed him to write using eye movements.
It was 20 times slower than using his fingers, but it worked.

Hal kept programming until he could no longer communicate.
In March 2013, he published a farewell letter titled “Bitcoin and Me.”

In August 2014, he left behind two children, his wife, and a legion of admirers.
Hal was not buried or cremated.
Instead, he was cryopreserved.
He rests in a frozen tank in the Arizona desert, waiting for medicine to advance enough to repair his ailments.
Fran says that Hal “loved change.” He just wanted “to be able to see what the world would become.”

The coins mined in the Finney attic essentially paid for the treatment and gave Hal a dignified end of life.
His children inherited a love for science and freedom.

What will really happen is that state-issued currencies will not completely disappear.

As ironic as it may sound, #Bitcoin not only protects you from the Cantillon Effect — it also puts you on equal footing with the privileged few who receive freshly printed money first. In other words: #Bitcoin gives you the power to exploit the victims of the system.
In the fiat standard we live under, central bankers print trillions and funnel that money first to well-connected banks — those at the front of the monetary privilege line. The bitcoiner, however, does something more elegant: they use absolute scarcity as collateral to drain liquidity from the system.
As former President Obama once said (even if he didn’t grasp the full depth of what he meant): holding #Bitcoin is like carrying a Swiss bank in your pocket. And he wasn’t wrong.
Put simply: you don’t just escape monetary debasement — you can profit from it.
In practice, this means access to hard-money credit (dollars, euros, yen, etc.) at interest rates historically reserved for banks deemed “too big to fail” — the same ones that have already collapsed in the past and were bailed out by taxpayers.
Being a bitcoiner today is more privileged than being any Brazilian bank. After all, Brazilian banks are far from the Federal Reserve and still operate under the control of local politicians — a toxic combination of distance from new money and proximity to Brazilian risk.
While most people are trying to survive the Cantillon Effect, you can profit from it.
After all, access to 5% annual credit in dollars is something not even Itaú can get.
Study #Bitcoin now — before the rest catch on. Take advantage of the privilege of others’ ignorance.

For decades, one of Israel’s greatest state secrets quietly crossed the desert: a pipeline built in partnership with… Iran.
That’s right. The country that now vows to “wipe Israel off the map” was, for years, its main oil supplier.   
Israel faced a critical strategic challenge: how to ensure a steady oil supply in a hostile Middle East?
In the mid-1950s, Iran under Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi — who didn’t even officially recognize Israel — became its primary supplier, accounting for up to 90% of Israel’s oil imports.   
In 1965, Israeli Foreign Minister Golda Meir made a secret visit to Iran.
There, she proposed a bold plan to the Shah: build a pipeline linking the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, bypassing the Suez Canal — and secretly supplying oil to Israel.   
The negotiations included representatives from Mossad and the Iranian state oil company NIOC — a testament to the initiative’s strategic importance.
Two years later, everything changed: the closure of the Suez Canal.   
Following the Six-Day War, Egypt shut down the canal, and 75% of Iranian oil exports were left without a route.
The Shah saw the pipeline as a perfect opportunity: reduce dependence on Egypt and strengthen his leverage over Western oil companies.
It was the final push needed.   
Thus was born Trans-Asiatic Oil Ltd., a 50/50 joint venture between Iran and Israel — registered in Switzerland, of course.
Officially, Iran said: “We don’t sell oil to Israel.”
In practice? They did — operating pipelines and even having Israeli naval escorts for Iranian tankers.   
The 254-kilometer pipeline between Eilat and Ashkelon was completed in 1969.
In its first year, 10 million tons of oil passed through it. Israel kept 3 million; the rest was sold via Israel, with profits split between the secret partners.
A true geopolitical masterpiece.   
While Israel secured its energy supply, the Shah’s Iran challenged Western oil giants and filled its coffers — all under the radar.
It was a win-win: oil, money, and influence for both sides. Hidden from the rest of the Arab world.   
But everything changed in 1979 with the Islamic Revolution in Iran.
Israel nationalized the pipeline, ending the secret alliance.
The case ended up in court — and in 2016, an international tribunal ordered Israel to pay Iran over $1 billion for breach of contract.   
Today, even mentioning such an alliance would sound like fiction.
But for over a decade, Israel’s greatest enemy was… its biggest ally behind the scenes.
The pipeline still exists. But the partnership is now a relic from an era when interests spoke louder than ideology.

Although @nprofile…4rs5 has not publicly responded to the criticism, its terms of use state that it may deduct the entire balance from customers' wallets if their accounts have been inactive for more than 12 months.
The text notes that users were notified about this change over a year ago.

Bitcoin Wallet Begins Charging ‘Inactivity Fee’ to Users; Amounts Reach Up to $30,000
Users of a Bitcoin wallet are accusing its developers of moving their coins without permission. Numerous reports about the issue can be found on social media.
The transfers are reportedly an “inactivity fee” charged by the wallet, which operates on both the native Bitcoin network and the Lightning Network. The fee is outlined in its terms of service.
Unlike other well-known wallets, such as Electrum or Ledger, this wallet offers a shared custody solution. As a result, the developers also have access to the funds.
As an example, a user shared a screenshot showing that the developers deducted $200 in Bitcoin from their wallet. The invoice cites an “inactivity fee” as the justification.
