So lately I've been toying around a bit with Podium.
While it's still in early development, at this point I'm pretty set on using it for my GUADEC talk. It's a pretty cool and unique way to do this.

What a perfect quote to open @npub1fdr…lvhs new book on AI. Catches much of the popular discourse on this topic perfectly. Including the abundant criti-hype around this (see, I read the first chapters).
The book arrived on my doorstep yesterday. To my delight a beautiful little hardcover edition. Have been waiting on this for a while :)

Today I released Lockpicker.
Lockpicker is essentially a GUI frontend to hashcat. Recover a password from its hash straight from a modern GNOME-native interface without the hassle of dealing with hashcat syntax.
Early release. It still has a few rough edges UI-wise, where I probably want to do a pretty major overhaul eventually. I also need to redo the logo properly. But it works quite well, comes with OpenCI GPU acceleration.

Oh, the separate virtual desktops per monitor are nice. Somewhat jealous of that one here from the GNOME-sphere.

Thanks, got the paperback/ebook/audiobook combo from the Kickstarter (already had the three for enshittification), the local stores in Sweden seem to ship the same Verso Books edition anyway.
Can't wait to get my hands on it, Enshittification was an important book for me, it's one of those few works that really help put the finger on the issue's we're seeing today. The right diagnosis and vocabulary is important to fight back.
Threw in the EFF support while I was at it

And that revenue includes the 10 bln that Microsoft hands to OpenAI and OpenAI hands back to Microsoft. As @npub1fdr…lvhs said, to call that an accounting trick is doing injustice to the noble accounting trick. This is just ordinary fraud.
This clearly can't go on forever. And as Stein's law has it, anything that can't go on forever eventually stops. The bubble will pop, and given the state of the stock-market it will be ugly.

Yeah the GNOME Circle application process was transformative by itself. I remember @npub1dkc…3gke once called it a developer education initiative disguised a verification program.

Thanks! I submitted an abstract. I was mainly unsure earlier about the longer description, which doesn't have guidelines or limits. Which is fine, just wanted to make sure I was not doing it wrong :)

Just to be sure Im not missing anything, there’s no limits or guidelines on length of the abstracts and such?
Most conferences I’ve been to when I worked in academia had clear guidelines with regard to page/word length and such.
I’m perfectly happy with a free format, but just wanted to make sure I’m not missing any thing important.

The default GNOME Text Editor has changed a while ago. Not sure if you're still on the old one (or what Ubuntu uses as default), but in the modern text editor you can turn off syntax highlighting by pressing the info icon in the corner, and then choosing "Plain Text" in Document Type.
Doesn't do word count selection blocks though. And I don't know if it even supports auto-scroll. But otherwise I think it fits all listed criteria I think.

Yet, any policy that is aimed at eliminating the system failure that is the existence of billionaires is widely controversial in those circles. Propose any proper wealth tax, and you'll be met with louder resistance than the resistance they offer against fascism.
Just to be completely clear, not talking about eliminating their status of being alive, talking about eliminating their status of gold-hoarders.

Also, especially getting involved in development within the ecosystem, kinda was an incentive for me to join #FriendsOfGNOME.
The project has given me a lot with my own development work. So it makes sense to me to give something back, even if symbolically. In a sense it’s been life-changing as I don’t expect to have gotten in the line of work I’m in now if it weren’t for personal FOSS projects, where GNOME played a central role for me.

GNOME is design-driven, in the way that user experience comes first. While an opinionated approach may not suit everybody’s workflow, in my view it leads to better, more testable and more polished products.
Also the community. Started on Graphs as a humble side-project, and was positively surprised by the amount of help and feedback I got from GNOME community, including the always fantastic design time. There’s few processes where I learned more than when we joined #GNOMECircle.

That's such a huge swing, seems unlikely almost 20% of Windows 11 users collectively decided to reintall their PC and downgrade to Windows 10 in the same month. Are we sure this isn't just statistical noise?
Having said that, the main point still stands. W11 is _not_ popular, _at all_. Better be some plans from MS, as I'm not 100% sure just forcing W11 down people's throat is the way to go.

We just literally just removed explicit mobile support for Graphs last week because it wasn’t that useable in real testing on actual hardware :( (Christoph, the other maintainer had a phone to test on, previously I only tested on my Steam Deck for smaller touch devices)
Good news is that we fixed this in the latest build, so next release we’ll be targeting mobile again :)
