You may be asked to clone a repository, install dependencies, run a backend, start a frontend, troubleshoot a local issue, or connect a wallet to test the product. In reality, the repo may contain malicious scripts or code designed to access local files, environment variables, developer credentials, API keys, SSH keys, wallet data, or trick you into signing something dangerous.
This works because it abuses trust and pressure. Developers looking for work are often trying to be responsive, helpful, and technically impressive. Attackers know that.
Basic precautions:
