I think they only have a choice because of protectionism. And I don't think I have to have the conversation. I believe economics will handle that in time. You can only shit on people for so long before they've had enough. I think people are stretching to the max just to keep buying the shit while floating negative equity from the last piece of shit. Eventually they just won't maintain the stuff at all. And some of the manufacturers already have a problem finding people who want to work on them, at least for the pay.
Removing import restrictions and tariffs would have this fucking shit over with in probably a year or two. All of the stuff you've mentioned is only possible in an unfree market.

The more seamless, and integrated the financial system is the better.

I think a lot do from what I've heard but I think it's pretty widely accepted that a lot of the new sales side comes from selling financial products and bullshit markups. In my opinion, the financialization of it all has done a lot to incentivize all the bullshit. People are stretching terms to make payments for vehicles very few people should actually be driving, which I think makes the entire market (including second and third) markets murky. I figure at some point all the regulation and financial nonsense will tip over and end with more bailouts, or ideally, less regulation on manufacturing and importing.
As for service, I can certainly see why it's a money maker. The person I talk to is trying to sell me whatever the fuck they can because that's also sales. And I became an amateur mechanic because I still had to go behind them and fix the shit they sold me. Most people are probably fucked the moment they hit the property. Mechanics are probably at the bottom of the shit hill with the rest of us.
That's my super doomer take anyway. For dealerships. There are lots of great independents out there. And like one dealership in my experience, unfortunately.
