Bitcoin remains usable on a voluntary basis in the private sector, and the government continues to purchase it for its reserves, but it no longer has the status of legal tender (forced circulation).
Recent sources (2026) confirm that the dollar remains the reference currency for everyday use.
No other currency (neither cryptocurrency nor foreign currency) has legal tender status in El Salvador. If you are making transactions on the ground, the US dollar is the currency to use.
