You might be referring to the vow of silence. Monks do it all the time. It's better to find one yourself and inquire them about it, otherwise it's just theory or larping.
In my experience keeping quiet is very beneficial. The best feature is that you stop talking bullshit. Since men have the ability to give birth to stuff thanks to the laringe (I wanna say few can, but still), you can see where I'm going with it... Celibacy, fasting and restraints are a great way to subdue the body and put the affairs in order.

People often wonder at how many of the English-language writers on here are German-speakers, but you can actually recognize us by the larger vocabularies, more-complex sentence structures, tendency to patterns and poetry, philosophical bent, and allegorical/visual style.
Our English tracks more toward the style of Bronte and Dickens, than most modern English does, as German is still the language of Dichter und Denker. The style transposes across the language barrier.
