It's definitely important to have Stratum endpoints to use as backups when our servers go down. There can be template providers out there which provide such a service to miners. It's not a huge deal to have them exist. What matters is the incentives and the tradeoffs. DATUM and TIDES pools allow such template providers to operate within that ecosystem and offer compelling rates, competitive against basic SV1 KYC pools.
It's AlphaPool you should really be worried about. PyBlock is a better alternative to them at least. But yay! More TIDES pools! Time to spread the word!

It doesn't need to be reverse engineered, it's fully open source and the changes are minimal. Only a few tiny changes to the code at most to support the new sighash type and maybe a couple odds and ends, if I'm not mistaken.
