Решил спросить ИИ насчёт сравнения социальности у хомо и неандертальцев, вышло неоднозначно:
Основные линии сравнения:
Размер группы через мозг (Данбар и «социальный мозг»). У ранних Homo (habilis/erectus) оценки ~70–120 человек, у неандертальцев — ~110–150. Но Pearce, Stringer & Dunbar (2013) показали, что у неандертальцев непропорционально велики затылочная кора и орбиты (адаптация к слабому свету высоких широт), поэтому «на социальность» мозга оставалось меньше, чем у сапиенсов при равном объёме.
Генетика. Секвенирование неандертальцев (Altai, Сидрон, Чагырская, Окладников) даёт очень низкую гетерозиготность, инбридинг, эффективный размер популяции порядка сотен–тысяч. Skov et al. (2022) по Чагырской: локальная община ~10–30 человек, женская миграция между группами, мужчины оставались (патрилокальность). Для ранних Homo такой информации нет вообще.
Транспорт сырья как прокси социальных сетей: у неандертальцев кремень обычно перемещается на 20–80 км, редко больше; у ранних Homo — единицы километров; у верхнепалеолитических сапиенсов — сотни км, что интерпретируют как более широкие обменные сети.
Забота о немощных: Шанидар 1, Ла-Шапель-о-Сен, Крапина — неандертальцы явно выхаживали травмированных долгие годы. Для ранних Homo есть спорные случаи (KNM-ER 1808 с гипервитаминозом А, дманисский беззубый череп D3444), но выборка мизерная.
Огонь, разделение труда, стоянки: неандертальские очаги и организация пространства стоянок (Абрик Романи, Кебара) заметно сложнее, чем всё, что известно по эректусам.
Итог: неандертальцы социальнее ранних Homo почти по всем прокси, но их группы были меньше и сети — уже, чем у современных им сапиенсов. Ключевые работы: Pearce et al. 2013 (Proc R Soc B), Skov et al. 2022 (Nature), Hublin & Roebroeks по сравнению демографии, Spikins et al. по «палеоальтруизму».

Объём мозга - не показатель смышлённости индивида и успешности вида в целом.
Тем более, что **в среднем** у неандертальцев объём мозга был всё же чуть побольше чем у современного человека.
В среднем выходит 1350 см^3 для современного человека (если считать по всем расам и обоим полам) и 1433 см^3 для неандертальцев (если считать по всем неандертальцам Европы и Ближнего Востока до 130 000 лет назад, исключая детей).

@nprofile…c6d2 I think training data is always going to be contentious; models benefit from using as much of the internet as possible - but not everyone opted in. Who knows how the best-performing open source models were really trained; possibly distilled from OpenAI’s? But for me they are a whole lot less problematic than closed remote models.

Насчёт смышленее - сравнения на живых неандертальцах нет и не будет. Так что весьма спорное утверждение.
Мы можем лишь констатировать, что все неандертальцы вымерли. А от чего - это пока неизвестно. Возможно, что причин было гораздо больше одной.
