They had very special demographics. Also it's not 1862 in America anymore. We have all these laws and capital controls and we have a central bank etc..... Or who says we should grow like that ? Africa is growing like crazy and that's good but I would still rather live in the USA.
Monetary expansion through centealised means that are arbitrary decided, are no where close to the same as a decentralised system with hard coded tail inflation.
Personally, I prefer the hard cap structure of Bitcoin, but I would much rather live under a monetary system akin to monero's than a gold standard.

Gambling on the success of a specific thing and increasing your chances of success by encouraging others to do make the same gamble is fine.
And discouraging others from making other choices because it doesn't support the network you're invested in is a pretty normal choice.
But I think we can do better than this.
We can recognize and support ALL networks and protocols that encourage human freedom and have discussion about their advantages and disadvantages.
To the benefit of everyone.
The cost of doing so is just the time needed to actually learn about different protocols.
