I feel almost exactly the same as you. And I agree that the solution shouldn't be " just write code ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" cause that's what got us here.
But what's amazing is that no matter how shitty a Nostr client or relay is, if it followed the core spec and produces valid events, it's an equal participant in the eyes of the network. That doesn't help you, I know. And it makes me mad too. But that's how it's been possible to even get to this point. Protocol-complient but completely user-unfriendly experiences abound.
I reeee about poor code quality all the time, and I was doing it before vibe coding when people were still writing code by hand. But at the end of the day, my reeee-ing is still justified. Good code quality and prudent, sane engineering is how we move this thing forward, or else we're stuck floundering in our own pig-sty with a half dozen devs building for 2 dozen users.
How do we get there? I dunno. Devs aren't going to magically adopt a professional mindset, and vibe coding will only make things worse. Call it an epidemic of the field. It's a sickness and it's going to wreak a lot of havoc before things change.
I decided to build a relay. And I'm building it prudently. And it's going to take a while. But I hope you can take some small solace that there's at least one dev out there trying to do things right and professionally. I don't have grant money, and I don't care to obtain any because I don't need it. I'm going to make what I want to see, and I hope it can help make things better for me. And if it can make things better for me, maybe it can make things better for you. And that is my hope.

How can you "protect" (this usually means prevent, otherwise what are we even talking about) people from making bad decisions without force or coercion? Laws against fraud protect property rights. I don't blame the Founders for not seeing every possible outcome, but I wish they'd spent more time limiting eminent domain.
The supreme court defended ED as an inherent attribute of a state. Why even have a document defining the state if the state has inherent attributes - what are they exactly? Who decides them? Isn't that the exact purpose of a Constitution? Anyway, it is in the Constitution, I just wish they'd limited the hell out of it.

Just had an enlightening conversation with my corner storage checkout lady about insidious product design.
I was completely unaware of this, but apparently Swisher Sweet controls a whole line of products, which include nicotine vapes, of course their regular tobacco products(including nicotine pouches), and now kid-friendly caffeine pouches.
What's wild to me is if you think about this from like a product streamline, you get kids used to the format of nicotine pouches by having their parents buy them sweet and candy flavored caffeine pouches. Then eventually, used to a pouch format, they graduate to something like a zen because they try one. And once they're hooked on nicotine, probably graduate to a product like an actual nicotine product or a vape
I don't know if anyone else has read the two books Known as Venus Inc., but inside the dystopian sci-fi series, there is multiple corporations who have product lines that trigger cravings for other product lines. You smoke a cigarette, meaning you need one of their sodas, which means you need one of their snacks, which then retriggers the craving for the cigarette, and the cycle begins, you know, keeps going on and on.
