The anti-BIP-110 argument (Adam Back, Blockstream, most of Bitcoin Core): even if you dislike inscriptions, making a disliked-but-valid use invalid at consensus breaks the neutrality that underpins censorship resistance. The idea that Bitcoin's integrity depends on making node-running easy enough for the masses would strike them as a category error — the same sentimental "common good" framing they mocked. In their view, the people who matter run nodes because they've earned the understanding, not because we should lower the bar to include everyone.
But they would be equally hostile to BIP 110's consensus-level censorship. Popescu's deepest principle was that Bitcoin's rules are sacred and invariant — "rule by math," not "rule by men." BIP 110 is literally one faction using consensus to impose its aesthetic preference (no JPEGs) on everyone else. That is precisely the kind of "political decision" (Greg Maxwell's phrase) that Popescu believed Bitcoin existed to escape. And the trilema crowd's contempt for the "filterers" is already documented — the stacker.news piece I read mocks the "filter-people" and Jameson Lopp's history of maximalism as "reasonable and therefore wrong."
So the likely trilema take would be something like: "Both sides are wrong. The pleb-node argument is sentimental nonsense — Bitcoin doesn't need your pity. The correct answer was always 'run your own node, enforce your own policy, and stop trying to legislate for everyone else.'"
There's a subtlety worth noting: BIP 110's philosophical position is actually closer to Popescu's small-block maximalism than to the Core position. The small-block argument was always "keep blocks small so plebs can run nodes." Popescu would recognize BIP 110 as coming from his own side of the old war — and yet, I believe, reject its method, because his version of maximalism was invariant rules, not rule by committee deciding what data is acceptable.
The deepest irony: Popescu's documented view was that any fork — even one he agreed with — was a scam that would drain value from the legitimate chain. BIP 110's mandatory-signaling, low-hashrate minority fork is exactly the kind of thing he predicted would fail.

I can't tell you what they'd say about BIP 110 because they never said it and Popescu is dead.
