I hate migration. Don't get me wrong, I know why it occurs and I know it can be beneficial, so maybe I should be more clear.
I hate the idea of continuous migration, the continuous import or export of human beings as a solution to a continuous problem. Guess what? Life fucking sucks. It's SUPPOSED to suck. Obviously it's possible to make it suck more, artificially, but that doesn't change the fact that it sucks quite a bit by its nature and by default.
It is even possible to subvert this nature temporarily. For example, when a region is successful and produces a higher percentage of skilled laborers, it will often have a shortage of unskilled labor. This is good. There isn't always an income for an accountant to count, or trauma for a therapist to help resolve. Sometimes the accountant and the therapist should be forced to work the coal mines in order to create the income to count or the trauma to resolve in the first place.
But of course, unless every region is equally successful, (which through no fault of life's own is not always the case) it will be possible to cover up this cruel nature by simply importing a shit-ton of unskilled laborers. Of course there are a million wrong and stupid arguments for why this is bad.
"Boo hoo! Slavery or exploitation are bad!"
"Nooooooo! Immigrant workers are taking muh jerbs!"
"OMG! None of these new workers have gone through the proper BUREAUCRACY!"
All of those arguments are BS; they miss the bigger picture. The REAL problem is that immigrants only make the root of the problem WORSE! The region will only get more and more prosperous, creating even more expertise and specialization, requiring more and more immigrants, until BAM! Reality finally arrives and destroys everything after being allowed to accelerate for years and years! It turns out that doing shit in this world requires space! A social or technological singularity just isn't possible.
The only way to survive in a world where nobody cares about the deeper meaning of their actions is by fighting the urge to live a life free from reality's natural shittiness. Accept and push through all the shittiest parts of life and reality. Don't try to push them off yourself unless you are actually solving the root of the problem.
Because most people are full of self loathing & feel undeserving of love. How can they respect someone who loves them when they can't even love themselves?
The feminist movement of the 70's had disastrous consequences for both men women that we're only just noticing. It drove a big horrible wedge between men & women. It made us doubt our own intuition & biological desires.
The simple fact is that this alpha male signaling results in sex with pretty, young women who don't know their value or value themselves. It's a shallow path & leaves both genders feeling empty, used & abused afterwards. This path is generally chosen by insecure nice guys sick of being an incel. They initially thought buying girls dinner, flowers & expensive gifts would yield affection & sex (it doesn't). They never look within to find the love that they so desperately need to feel whole.
We're all different & we each have different needs & preferences from a partner. Knowing who you are & expressing yourself authentically is the best way towards finding an authentic & fulfilling partnership with an other. Pretending to be someone else is never the way.

Being open source means anyone can independently review the code. If it was closed source, nobody could verify the security. I think it's essential for a program of this nature to be open source.

Follow-up: the in-game Lightning wallet — here's what's happening under the hood when you zap inside the district
Every Nostr District account gets a self-custodial Lightning wallet automatically via Breez. No signup, no separate seed phrase — your nsec is your wallet.
How it works:
First login asks your signer (nsec / extension / bunker) to sign one fixed Nostr event. The signature is hashed via HKDF into a 12-word BIP39 mnemonic that seeds a Spark wallet (Breez SDK), and a Lightning address gets registered — usually <yourname>@breez.tips.
The mnemonic is then NIP-44 encrypted to your own pubkey and published as a kind:30078 event. Log in on any browser with the same nsec, the app pulls that event from relays, decrypts it, and you're on the same wallet. Same identity → same wallet, everywhere.
Zap routing:
* Zaps sent inside Nostr District land in your in-game wallet. We publish a separate kind:30078 mapping your pubkey → in-game lud16, and our client looks there first.
* Zaps from Damus / Amethyst / Primal go wherever your kind:0 lud16 points. We never modify your profile.
If you want external zaps to land in the in-game wallet too, copy the LN address from the wallet panel into your kind:0 manually — we don't do it silently because overwriting kind:0 could wipe your bio, picture, NIP-05, etc.
Treat it as a hot wallet. Great for the shop, in-game zaps, vibes. Not for savings.

I think I have an idea to discourage this. It's not entirely novel, but I think it can be done as a soft fork (I've heard others suggest it would require a hard fork).
Alongside the existing requirement that the hash of the header be smaller than the current 'target', I would add a new requirement to include a signature of a message - signed by the coinbase output's key - where that signature begins with four zero bytes.
The controller of the coinbase - i.e. the pool operator - might be tempted to share the private key with the 'hashers' in order for the hashers to compute the signature locally. But of course the controller won't want to share the private key, and instead the hashers will submit their shares to the controller such that the controller will compute the signature and check if they have achieved a full block.
With this, the hashers don't know if their 'mining share' is a 'full block' and therefore they don't know which shares to withhold.
Unfortunately, we would also need to softfork a new signature scheme with deterministic signatures, which also means a new curve. "BLS signatures — Boneh–Lynn–Shacham — often used over pairing-friendly curves such as BLS12-381."
Also, this signature would need to be passed 'out of band', i.e. it's an extension to the relay protocol. But it's a soft fork because nodes don't need to be upgraded. Non-upgraded nodes might be "confused" because they would see an *apparent* drop in difficulty
