When I was a kid, we moved a lot and I can remember that every time we did, my father complained about having to move that "old piece of junk" when I was in 20, I snuck it out of their house and got the broken spindle replaced and had it recaned. That piece was expensive because its black walnut, which is fairly scarce. When it was all done, I gave it to my mother for mother's day. She has now been able to use it for over 40 years.
