Every law on the books is somebody’s morality with a gun behind it.
Speed limits assume life is worth protecting at cost. Contract law assumes promises bind. Theft statutes assume property is real. You cannot legislate without legislating morality, and nobody has ever done it.
So the question was never whether a nation enforces a creed. Only which one, and whether it’s honest about having one. Secularism isn’t the absence of establishment. It’s an establishment that denies being one.
I spent considerable time on this four thousand word essay of sorts. Calvin, Rutherford, the Puritans, and the sentence the Constitution left out.
