Just to be clear, when I say you are trusting the wrong people now I am talking about those who are telling you things like Bitcoin Core has been hijacked and that spam is an existential threat to bitcoin. All that stuff is designed to create a split among bitcoin users and it's being pushed onto relative newbies to bitcoin by snakes like Kratter at Bitcoin Univeristy.
