Yeah the Nordic countries don't treat imprisonment as 100% punishment. For many prisoners it is actually beneficial for a country to educate & teach skills to them rather than have them back in the streets to commit more crimes. Obviously this doesn't apply to hardened violent criminals. But the prison aystem in rhe US is big business.

Well it's the one example I know of and I experienced it. Any city that allows legal drug use is going to attract addicts. What needs to happen is there also has to be help for them. They have to voluntarily accept help or it is made mandatory otherwise society just sinks. You are not going to have just "average people" taking drugs, you will have hardcore users, mentally ill & homeless too, that's inevitable. It's a nice idea to let people do drugs if they want but there's no reason the rest of the population should pay a price for it. Rehab needs to be a part of the agreement.
Fortunately the rest of the country saw what happened here in Portland so no other city is going to allow drug use without some sort of enforced rehab rules. In fact Portland really put an end to any idea of legal drug use in the US because it made such a collassal fuck up out of it by showing what a nightmare it can become.

That's not true. Here in Portland OR drugs were legalized for almost 4yrs and the overdose numbers were huge and the public outcry was so loud the politicians changed the laws before they were voted out. I was supportive of legalizing drugs but it became quickly apparent that it was a big mistake. Now, if there had been rules that were put in place and adhered to such as mandatory rehabin certain situations (rather than let anyone shoot up smack or snort meth wherever they want in public) then the outcomes might have been different but just allowing drug addicts to take drugs freely out on the streets will just encourage them and create more deaths.

Why would it be higher? Why isn't it higher now while the fees are so low? Remember, once a billion or more people are using bitcoin the fees will increase significanly and putting images on will become extremely expensive.
Fooling/decieving others into believing Core is compromised (with no evidence whatsoever & mostly to new bitcoiners) in order to get them to use Knots instead. Knots is ok to use but the accusations and lies are a disgrace.

Even without "spam" how large do you think the blockchain will be in 10 or 20 years? Potentially billions of people will be using bitcoin at that point, it will be huge compared to what we have now. What happens then? Roughly 2-4% of the blockchain has some kind of media/images on it today. Are people going to run nodes if the blockchain is 25TB (without images) or will they say it's too big? You have zero evidence of Core corruption, that's just fake news being spread by people trying to fool you.

Some people exist by consuming fear. They spend their time reading/watching/listening to media regarding all the horrors that the future will bring. I won't say I am nothing but a total optimist because I like to be grounded but I am certainly optimistic for the future. I do believe we have a decade or so of more turmoil before we start turning the corner though.
Apparently liberals/progressives have higher rates of unhappiness & depression than conservatives. I have an absolutely terrible time with math. Algebra 101 twists my brain so bad that even after 3 semesters & extra tuition I dropped it. When it comes to English I have no trouble at all and I had a teacher who wanted me to get into a career in writing. Some people have a hard time with writing but can be brilliant at other things, we are all different. Judging a person's ability to build high end computers on the basis of spelling & grammar in one email is not wise imo.

I am not "pro-core" though so I'm not trying to convince others to be. I've also said I think it's totally fine to run any node you choose. Maybe a lot of people are being played by Knots, believing Core is "compromised" and that running filters is going to make a difference. Knots is attacking Core's integrity without proof. I do agree choice is good and for those who want filters they have Knots but they also need to be careful if just one person is maintaining it, especially when said person has had 200+ coins stolen.
