A great example of how free market thinkers recognise the dangers of monopolies to efficient profit extraction is the UKs NHS.
As a monopsony, the only buyer in town, it was very hard to pull fast one's on.
So it was broken up into battlin business units which allowed direct "competition" internally (with the NHS picking up all the most expensive and difficult cases) and to make it easier to sell to externally.
It's all just a matter of perspective there.
