I think it is heavily wired in us for a lot of reasons. But the obvious one for me are:
- tribal/sense of community
- safety/belonging
- blindly following the herd (bandwagon)
- curiosity

All can be mitigated by conscious choice by asking the "why" and if "who" you follow align your values.

It would be interesting to see how long those followers stay (retention) and the bots. 👌☺️
