Last Notes npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I need to drill a big-ish hole (~1.5”) into my house’s band joist to run conduit to my garage. I’ve done this sort of thing before but my house is just a couple of years old and modern houses are… different. I need to go through ~5” of sprayed in insulation, the actually joist and the structural joist that holds up my deck. Wtf do I do that with? It’s going to be like 7-10” of different types of materials. I don’t think it’s hole saw territory. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I’ll probably gain no friends here, but I wish Billy Bishop was expanded. I travel through Pearson a lot for work and its misery. I used to use Billy Bishop and it was a pleasure: less wait, less walking, less cascading delays, easier checkin, etc. Any direction you fly out of Pearson is used/populated, only one side for Billy Bishop. A high % of folks with hop in/out of cars at Pearson, few at Billy Bishop who will opt for public transport. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis If you have half-a-dozen eggs left in a dozen sized carton, what is the correct arrangement? https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/868/767/592/599/778/original/9345a7a51f45cffe.jpeg npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis #Eurovision news breaking on #CanadaDay no less. https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/canada-will-enter-2027-eurovision-song-contest-9.7254616 npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis It’s over! #yeg #yegwx Time to not feel grimy and to clean the kitchen. https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/796/979/023/448/638/original/d060eddc77dcaaae.jpeg npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis Welp. #YEG is getting taken out by rain. We gonna be a bit stinky tomorrow. #yegwx https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/791/551/304/721/228/original/48730b99dc855aac.jpeg npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis end of the quarter. Some poor email marketing schmuk trying to make open rate numbers. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis maybe. Still 20c off of the tech spec minimal temp at -10. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis that was a device I was looking at for sure. It will be inside the building but it’s only rated for -10c and it’ll be unheated. We stay below -10 for months at a time. I’ll probably role the dice anyway but I’m curious about the performance at -40… npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I have a detached garage and I need to add wired (cameras, power relays) and wireless connectivity (garage openers). It's about 40ft/12m from the house to the garage. Should I use a point-to-point wireless bridge from the house to the garage + switch + AP or an outdoor wireless access point on the house + wifi-to-wired bridge + switch? I'm concerned about #yeg weather (-40c + snow) interference and I use Ubiquiti stuff. Any thoughts? Am I missing another option? (aside from a physical wire) npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis So the fuselage was a fail - impossible to glue up. Nothing stuck with my cyanoacrylate super glue dollar store glue at least. I thought CA glue was a commodity- are their better and worse brands especially for #3dPrinting? npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis Print 1 complete. #3dPrinting https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/749/080/650/681/444/original/a60b104bb4c8fa65.jpeg npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis Trying a new-to-me #3dPrinting technique: printing on tissue paper. https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/749/034/322/186/461/original/57e9ffeed448008a.jpeg npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis Finally, I want a pedal board under the desk with a few macros for common actions: cycle through windows, hang up a zoom call, etc. 3/3 npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis The central laptop would be used for interactive work: web browsing, coding, drafting documents, etc. I want two external monitors setup in portrait mode flanking each side. The laptop should have a single cord that manages power and accessories. When “undocked” from the desk (yank the cord) the terminal sessions from the e-ink tablets become windowed terminal sessions. Maybe these e-ink devices are serial over Bluetooth? IDK. 2/3 npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I keep thinking about what my dream/fantasy workstation would look like. This may be impractical but… I want a series of small, tablet-sized e-ink devices in different colours. Each one should be able to legibly show a TUI. These are mostly used non-interactively, but should be able to take over keyboard input from the central laptop. These would show things like email, calendar, alerts, and other miscellaneous flows of incoming info. No creation on these devices. 1/2 npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I know. I know. The last time I used nightly was A few years ago and it was very incrementally different than stable. This looks much different. I love OpenSCAD but the lack of real released versions makes me sad. I (somewhat) understand the reasoning the team has but I think it has downsides that are big. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis the nightly rendering style looks so much better than the release. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis what version is that? npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis oh man, get mended up soon. Last year, I dislocated mine in China and had to fly back the same day. How did road sanding make you dislocate your shoulder though? npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I go to a lot tech conferences. As a consequence, I get handed a lot of sticker. I pulled out a piece of luggage and found a this, uh, interesting sticker. I did a reverse image search and it says it’s for Cosmonic Labs and should be turned 90°. Do you think anyone has told them that it’s basically an abstract version of the infamous “Instituto de Estudos Orientais” logo? https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/466/239/347/663/001/original/5ae8fabfd7047227.jpeg https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/466/253/120/654/555/original/bb7f3f032c2f8bd8.jpeg npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I find this whole ecosystem so confusing. I thought about playing with it a few months ago but noped out when I started peaking into stuff like particular bits _not_ being OSS. Is there one concise explainer about Meshtastic (io vs co.uk)/MeshCore/Ripple? npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis they’re useful! npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis Doing some household engineering this weekend. I have a cabinet I want to install a pull out rack to hold several cast iron pans (read: heavy). Problem is that there is hard-to-move electrical box in the way. I think what I want to do is install an inverted L bracket on the sidewall of the cabinet that support onside of the rack and use #3dPrinting to make some risers on the other. It should be about 6-7" off the cabinet floor. Am I nuts? Any other ideas? https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/426/730/791/725/036/original/d40d452de311feae.jpeg https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/426/731/222/403/311/original/cd4d9ecb5151ed67.jpeg npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I don’t post much about music but I’ve fallen down a deep Angine de Poitrine hole. You should too. They the best Canadian Dadaist, microtonal math rock duo. https://youtu.be/0Ssi-9wS1so npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I’m baffled at what a compiler would be really doing with that much processor muscle. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis the never transitioning off/use more is verifiably incorrect. 1) we’ve largely transitioned off using animal dung as an energy source (I’m sure it’s used in some very rural contexts, but certainly not using more) 2) peat as an energy source is fading away 3) whale oil as an energy source is gone (really using all animal oil directly, outside a small % of recycled biofuel) Unless you get massively broad, like oil == any oil from any source not just like FFs, etc. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis the URL thing is an interesting strength. Describing how to use GUIs are a mess (“click this button in the upper right”… ugh ) and but URLs short circuit that problem somewhat. TUIs have key combos but that’s far from perfect. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I’m trying to switch to using more TUI tools. I don’t mind doing something directly via the command line but unless I use it often it’s kinda slow. And SSH’ing into a box and loading a TUI is pretty safe, but punching a hole for a web-based GUI is security exception. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis For admin tools, would you rather have a: GUI (web/app based, point-and-click) or TUI (run from a terminal session interactively but not a command line tool)? npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis so, I had a doctor tell me to eat more insoluble for a temporary health thing. A food that has a ton is cinnamon, like an ungodly amount (it’s tree bark, which that tracks). So, I added as much cinnamon as I could bear to my oats. IIRC it was like 5 tablespoons per bowl. It was so cinnamon-y it was spicy. The effects were, uh, immediate. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis if it’s part of the Fediverse, it could be called pooptoots. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis it’s hauntingly bad. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis RE: https://mastodon.social/@FluentInFinance/116371822094839719 Super interesting. Anyone who gardens knows about anaerobic soil bacteria from dealing with plants in pots without drain holes. Gardeners also know that that this type of bacteria is the smelliest stuff you’ll ever encounter. Glad we’re harnessing it to fuck cancer. #note140w…rphx npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I mean, 19A0 https://web.archive.org/web/20130309140857/https://boingboing.net/2011/10/11/mixtape-of-the-lost-decade.html npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis RE: https://hachyderm.io/@jbcrawford/116370770647099756 I’ve been truly messed by reading this toot. I’m just having a hard time wrestling with the term ‘stravenue’ being a real thing. In #yeg, we have a similar numbered street/avenue grid naming scheme to Tucson. We tend to use “Road” for diagonal… er vehicular paths (Argyll, Fort, Groat, Connors, etc.) but not exclusively (Jasper Ave, Kingsway Ave, Park Dr, and many numbered streets/aves). So, now all I see is inconsistent naming. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis noooot very well. It effectively is an object with no thickness and kind of hard to fill in without manually doing so. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis too bad these models aren’t solid. I need to 3d print a tiny PCjr for my desk. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis seems right to me! npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I don’t feel so bad about spending $35 CAD then! npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis My son won’t eat much fruit. We found these little bags of freeze dried strawberries and he *loves* them. He likes the crunch. Problem is they come in tiny bags, aren’t easy to find, go out of stock often, and they have a fair bit of added sugar. We couldn’t find a local source, but no problem: the internet has everything. I ordered 1 pound/454g of freeze dried strawberries. They arrived today. I did not expect this! Banana for scale. That is a lot of strawberries! https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/370/833/719/652/410/original/6a75c8fcdcc7e8c4.jpeg npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis that’s a business idea: filafume (perfumaent?)- perfume for your filament npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I was a beta tester on one of the first PHA filaments to market a few years ago. It was made here in Canada and it legit smelled like maple syrup when printing. Lovely stuff. The company went under a year later, unfortunately. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis PHA is super different by brand too. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis IIRC PLA isn’t terrible at chemical resistance (the primary solvent is unusual enough that no one chemically smooths it), but bathroom cleaners can be harsh. I’d you use steam cleaning for your bathroom though, expect deformation. Domestic hot water should be fine though. Crack sealing is a giant pain and increases the size in hard to control ways. So if it fits nicely together now, it won’t after. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis did you make it out of PLA? I wonder if it’s going to collect bacteria/mold and be hard to clean. There has been studies about how layer lines are perfect places for icky stuff to live. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis yeah. Mesh makes sense. No place to build up load bearing farts! npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis an autonomous chair? I used one frequently in an office I visited. Seemed nice. But the size was a little wide for my desk. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I’ve heard this brand a few times. I’ve never been wild about the gaming chair look, but I could get over it. Does it get hot? It looks like it might get swampy on hot days vs mesh or cloth. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis yeah, can’t find those on Amazon.ca 😕 npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I feel weird about used chairs. If they’re foam/upholstery then they are basically 80% load bearing farts. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I think I need a new desk chair. My current one is a cheap IKEA special from 8 years ago. It’s not _uncomfortable_ but it squeaks and is starting to look a bit rough. The price for new chairs range wildly. I know some chairs, even expensive ones, fall apart rapidly. So, I feel like I don’t have a good gauge on price. So Fedi: If you work from home at a desk job (8ish hours a day), how much did you pay for your desk chair? npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I think I do need the sheet stock to provide some of the rigidity since one side will exceed my mac print volume (and I have a 320x320 printer! Unless a reset up my belt printer and deal with that mess…). I’m leaning toward ply but I have a feeling I will regret it mid project. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis RE: https://mastodon.scot/@GlasWolf/116352121088393779 Tim Hunkin is a living legend. If you haven’t watched everything he’s ever made, your life is incomplete. #note1w29…ejsg npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I bet. Halloween is a fun airport day too. Very few travelers, lots of employees with low stress in costume. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis My kids only source of caffeine is chocolate. His Easter basket must be like drinking 3 pots of coffee for me. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis no, more like storage bins. Drawer like things that fit into a similarly shaped hole. Think IKEA Kallax and the fabric or plastic boxes that neatly fit into it. It’s clear from the responses to this thread it needs more visuals. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis that’s *kinda* what I have in mind. Fastening coroplast feels weird and not strong. Like, a screw into ply seems like it’s work. Corrugated plastic means you’d only grip the top/bottom layers, right? npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I don't recall that episode, but I would have dug it 100% as a kid. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis "feel like something that fell down between the stairs of my childhood memories." Great way of putting it. I feel like unearth stuff from that area all the time. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis god. I have a long unfulfilled childhood need for a light pen. I saw them on TV and in magazines and waaaaanted one but I never actually remember seeing one in the wild. I grew up in the 1980s cusp between the wild, vast, and weird home computer era and the boring PC compatible era, when things like light pens mostly disappeared. Now I understand the ergonomics were dog shit and the mouse won for reasons, but I still want a light pen. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I want something smoother and more finished than OSB. If it were shop drawers OSB would be a good option though! npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I have a ‘big’ #3dPrinting project. In my kitchen I have an awkward triangular space so I’m making some pull out bins. These bins will exceed my printing volume. The plan is to print out the front and corners but use another materials for the large, flat planes. I’m debating between using 1/4” Baltic Birch or coroplast. Coroplast will be cheaper and easier to cut accurately but I’m unsure of fastening it to the other parts. Ply is $ but stronger and easy to use screws, etc. Thoughts? npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis very much so. I’ve heard that growing your own isn’t too much effort. Tried it once and it didn’t work for me 🤷♂️ npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis the local stuff does way better. I’d love to know the logistics of these socks of Chinese grown garlic that are everywhere and cheap. Do they throw mountains away of it from the store? npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis that was fun. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I haven’t finished the show yet but I know the real story. Sadly, it’s not unique. There are similar incidents in other parts of the world. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I tired to watch radioactive emergency last night before bed… got way too into it and could fall asleep! npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis yeah, it’s a YouTube channel about disasters (not just radioactivity). Charmingly animated, we researched. https://youtube.com/@plainlydifficult (There is a “nuclear stuff” playlist if you want to mainline the good stuff) npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I love all the radioactivity episodes of Plainly Difficult. I’ve gotta watch this show. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis But I’m not in DevRel anymore. 😏 npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis it is! npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis thanks, but I think your method of rotate extrusion is the right solution. I never think of rotate extrusion - my brain never goes there. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis Made a simple mod with #3dPrinting to my kids toy train. He was desperate to have Daniel Tiger ride in this train. 10 minutes with #OpenSCAD and 20 minutes printing: ow Daniel can ride around in style. https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/312/997/646/749/358/original/cef0395ffe5b8635.jpeg https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/312/998/092/203/754/original/28bda2324ca08986.jpeg npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis AI barely exists on my feed, but I assume it’s an artifact of people reacting to the default algorithmic feed. AI posts suddenly look like the transparent trend chasing. Business leaders spend an inordinate amount of time on this platform. It’s clearly seeping into their decision making. When the bubble fully bursts, this needs to be examined as a contributing cause for the inevitable economic wounds. PS “Settings” > “Account Preferences” > “Preferred Feed” > Change to “Most Recent Posts” 2/2 npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis A lot has been written about the terrible outcomes of social media on politics, children, etc. Overlooked might be LinkedIn and its effect on business & the economy. This is poisoning the mind of business leaders and twisting the whole economy with it. Using defaults, if you take scroll it’s all AI, all the time. The most obviously uncritical takes on LLMs are shoved down your throat. Guess what? They have a pure linear timeline and it’s night and day. Almost no AI posts. 1/2 npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis Here is mine: https://gist.github.com/stockholmux/edb07dd03b7a792ad1a67d9061e827fe npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis Here is the source: https://gist.github.com/stockholmux/edb07dd03b7a792ad1a67d9061e827fe npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis same model of grinder? npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis I made this satisfying #3dPrinting project a couple of weekends ago. I have a pair of sleek Pugeot Isen salt/pepper grinders. They work great but definitely a frustration object trying to fill. The salt/pepper needs to go into the centre hole only and if anything gets into the outer channel, you have to pick it out. So, I measured it up and spent 20 minutes in #OpenSCAD then 20 minutes on the printer for a perfect fit into the outer channel. https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/308/783/042/037/258/original/fc107b4b41456eca.jpeg https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/308/783/227/210/240/original/a93e7e0645bcfe3c.jpeg https://cdn.fosstodon.org/media_attachments/files/116/308/783/295/801/166/original/9616637a79a271bd.jpeg npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis Great perspective in this piece. I’ve often wondered if there are mitigations that could be injected into the open web to poison the well for LLMs. I think that might be the only effective mitigation that doesn’t hurt humans. Maybe a gateway that measures frequency of requests and, once outside human scale frequency, gradually but increasing garble the meaning of content. Humans get true meaning, LLMs get nonsense. Feed them madness. https://www.anildash.com/2026/03/27/endgame-open-web/ npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis Heading home from #KubeCon a little early: $3k more to flight home on Friday vs Thursday 😳 In other news, I think I figured out a clever solution to a coding problem but lack of on board WiFi means I’ll probably get stuck a few hours into the flight without access to search/GitHub/etc. Should I just forget about it and watch stupid inflight entertainment or plow through to likely frustration? npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis Second time in a week that I hear a random shout out on YouTube referencing someone I know from Mastodon. Lots of frequent fliers on this flight at least. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis Boarded my flight to Amsterdam in Toronto for #KubeCon. I wonder what % are going to the conference? npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis that is an incredibly complete assessment. I appreciate how much time that must have taken to draft that explanation. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis is wireless worth it, really? npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis second photo looks like macaroni scattered on a table. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis slightly off topic: do you find the Calgary associations a lot different than the Edmonton community leagues? I live in King Edward Park, mentioned in the article actually, and when we were considering closing the EFCL did a presentation and said the community league model is unique to Edmonton in Canada. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis slightly off topic: do you find the Calgary associations a lot different than the Edmonton community leagues? I don’t think you’ll be able to plug and play anything much better. npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis There is this CBC story about a Canadian company involved in platforming white supremacy. Awful stuff, but it’s, evidently, also an awful business for the 3 partners. “Within two years after it launched in 2019, Entropy processed more than $3 million in transactions” And “…the company keeps only 15 per cent” So 15% of 3 mil? 450k revenue over 2 years. Assume costs are 50%, they made $37.5k annually for the 3 founders. How do you get this token? npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis yegwx is yeg weather! npub1tuk6cgtux45qe089wja2ptnqjde6x4h0rhs6ktks4ys2hwwm8llsep9wu4 Kyle Davis Now, subscriptions to AI coding tools are generally thought to be consuming 20x worth of compute than the subscription cost alone. Let’s assume that that goes down to 10x. So, a 500k/year engineer is going to have a $2.5 MILLION annual budget in the future? Meanwhile today it takes major friction to get people who traditionally manage budgets to spend $100k. Who are these people who earnestly believe this will work out? 2/2
