How can I tell If they have a limited kind list, or no AUTH but with whitelist? I always have to add 5 randoms, to make sure at least 1 works. Effective, but not very efficient
Should I just have an automated test run over each, trying stuff out?

This. I just had the same issue, implementing full outboxes and hints, random outboxes, and relay monitoring.
It immediately got crazy-complicated (and slow), and then I started iterating over that feature set and it got progressively faster, smoother, and simpler.

My Jumble's relay management increasingly reminds me of chaotic storage, from logistics. Just throw stuff at whichever random gateway is open, note where you threw it, move on.
The difference being, that in logistics you have to keep track of where you threw things, to find it, later. With *chaotic relay storage*, you just make sure the storage place is generally known (monitored) and other services pick up the stuff you threw there and spread it around to the places you generally prefer to look for things. It's actually kind of wild.

I really didn't see that coming, but I think it's the brittleness of their database-funnel. Although their systems are distributed on their end, they have to push the traffic through crowded gateways.

You are also discounting the eye-watering sums of money that were burned through to build your "success" stories and how most of those attempts crashed and burned within years or even months. Survivorship bias.
The cost of all of this has been really measely and we are still here and finally even starting to think up business models. Until now, we were just frantically trying to figure out how to see each others' shitposts.
Time is money. We had no money, so it takes more time. Volunteer time and a shoestring budget. Even the paid devs aren't exactly winning the lottery, or something.

I said this, years ago, and it's still true. And now the clients and relays are actually getting pretty good. The quality of my experience is already higher, on my Jumble, than on Slack or Telegram. Which I hadn't thought possible and am sort of surprised by.
We never had anything worth advertising to a larger audience, until now. The feature set was too small and the quality was too low.
I think we're going to see a big jump in useability and comprehensiveness, this year, and a marketing push next year. I know that @npub1s3h…75wz has big plans.

The thing people find irritating about Amethyst is the performance, not the ability to see pretty pictures. It's hard to run on slow internet or a cheap/aging phone. Wisp is very lightweight, by comparison.

Privacy is a server-side function (i.e. relays). You can't achieve privacy on the open Internet; only some obfuscation through encryption or privacy-requests (that aren't always honored, same as deletion requests). You either need to control access through a dedicated server, or through a true P2P system (where the client doubles as a server).
I.e. you have to have the notes in your physical possession, to control access.
Facebook is not the Internet. It's a server. That's why they can control access.

I was wondering how this works as the zap request goes to the LN server, not the relay. The relay gets the LN receipt published by the server, right? Or something. Are the request and the receipt encrypted?

Yeah, I have that in the threads, already. I list the zaps at the top, as if they were normal kind 1 or 1111 replies, and you can reply, zap, react, or boost them. So, you can use Jumble to have a zap-only thread below any kind. Just zap the zaps and add comments to the zaps. 😂

I decided to not review #wisp because I found bugs, but I can see him actively fixing them, so I'm gonna wait for it to mature a bit more and then do a full review.
But I like it. Very smooth and simple and fast. Native is always a bit faster, ngl. Also, love black-on-orange scheme. 🍊
The main problem is that the content skews follows-based, rather than relay-based, tho. Doesn't really have anything to do with this particular client. 🤷🏻‍♀️ People switching from Primal won't notice.

Probably a similar list, as it's just a reflection of follower count. People can't usually see your notes, unless they follow you, and that is the prerequisite for zaps and likes.
That's why this is basically just the recommended lists, copied follow lists, and follow packs that most people adopt when they first sign up.

I don't really get the point of it. I am constantly having to go and re-sign read notifications because some relay they are on dropped out. Or I feel obliged to open things I can read in notifications, just to get rid of that irritating red dot. 🔴
I'm dumping them. They're TMI and a PITA.
