Had to make an emergency repair to my Thinkpad power brick. The wire had broken internally so I cut out the bad section.

In fact you could plug the enhanced ROM set and 65C02 into a revision A board and have an enhanced IIe that does not have DHR, but I'm not sure if Apple would have actually supported that.

The first 44000 or so IIe's shipped with the "revision A" motherboard which does not have DHR capability. No ROM change. Apple offered a motherboard swap for people who needed DHR.
The enhanced IIe came later, it adds a 65C02 CPU along with the ROM updates and mousetext. Mostly it makes the IIe more like the IIc.

I bought my house in 2018 and had never cleaned it before, unknown when it might have been done before that. I had it on my todo list for a few months since I noticed the dryer was taking longer to dry things. Guess I put it off a little too long.

A reminder for anyone who has a clothes dryer in their home... be sure to clean (or hire someone to clean) the exhaust vent regularly. And it's not a bad idea to clean the inside of the machine once in a while too.
Judging by the burnt lint and awful smell, there was very likely a small fire inside my dryer, fortunately it did not spread.

Yeah was just looking at eBay prices now, that's kind of crazy. I bought all this stuff super cheap in 2023. The digital modems were the most expensive part and that was about $140 US.

Yep there a bunch of different cards for it. I got an 8-port 33.6K card and also 24 digital 56K modems, and some other cards needed to make everything work the way that I wanted. It has some voice interfaces that provide analog phone service so you can attach a modem and dial in as if it were an actual copper phone line.

I was messing around with something similar on a Cisco 3845 last year, which has internal modems. I don't think I ever finished setting up PPP though, I should really get back to that project, hehe.

Brother had a couple of weird desktop word processor models that also ran GeoWorks. Looked a lot like an electric typewriter with small VGA monitor attached. We had one in our test lab at work when I worked at a dialup ISP in like 1999.
