FYI, there are 28 grams in a normal ounce, but #gold (and other precious metals) are measured in “Troy ounces” which contain just over 31 grams of metal.

Wow, I’m loving how Fountain just subtly introduced a “switch to video” option for any podcast that has a video version. Personally I listen far more than watch (on the subway, background at the office, walking in the city, etc.) but an option this seamless might get me to switch, at least when I’m stationary.
It’s amazing to see how ubiquitous podcasts have become. I remember when it was a niche, kind of nerdy alternative, somewhere between radio news and an audiobook (or, I’ll date myself, a book-on-tape). Now, anyone (and it seems like almost everyone) with access to modern tech can ingest information this way, ranging from education to entertainment. (The term “content consumption” fits the bill, but I’m feeling curmudgeonly and weary of business buzzwords this morning, lol).
Add to this, Nostr and the value-for-value exchange model, and you get a new (user-aligned) incentive model. And with AI, it’s a matter of time until every show can be translated into every language, if we’re not already there. Talk about free information. Speech is “freed” by this, in a way. Freed from geographic and linguistic restraints. This is good for humanity…
At least on principle…

Ooh, this is interesting… after creating the NWC connection for Damus in @npub1get…0nfm Hub, full permissions (other than budget), my node’s main wallet page doesn’t show any of the 93-sat “one tap” zaps (or the corresponding 21-sat auto-zap to Damus). But it does show a zap where I long-pressed the ⚡️ button and zapped a custom amount.
However, all three payments are visible in AlbyGo.
Lot of moving parts here, I guess 🤔

Hey @npub18m7…q955 team! I’ve been living under a rock the past few months and just getting up to speed with the new wallet config. Mine appears to still be connected via NWC to my node, but also seems like it’s waiting for me to set up something. Any advice? Seems my zaps don’t go through. Might just try resetting the connection. Stay tuned.

Got a new toy this week. I’m not usually a fan of carbon fiber handles on pocket knives, but these “lava flow” handle scales have really nice, grippy feel… and the action is soooo smooth: no assisted opening mechanism, but a light flick of the thumb is all it takes. Also, the battle-washed blade is sleek, no?
I must confess, I’ve re-started a small knife collection, after the blades I originally acquired in my adolescence got misplaced between moving, growing up, etc.)
I’ll share photos of some of the others this week, if I have a chance.
Since I should blame someone other than myself for this occasionally pricey hobby, I remember @npub1f6u…zcka‘s note last summer or fall, sharing a slick customized Leatherman.
Anyway, Ava, I must thank you for reigniting the collector’s spark for me 😉

Alright, twice this week I’ve tried to pay a merchant who uses BitPay for their checkout, most recently being BitWarden…
Why the hell is it so complicated!?
They make you choose from dozens of shitcoin wallets, create an account, or some other nonsense with dysfunctional invoices and for whatever reason won’t just give me a simple address?
It’s not just me - multiple bitcointalk.org posts get into this. I tried the Electrum option because I like holding my own keys, and my wallet was out of date, so I downloaded directly from electrum.org/#download and even this application now has BitPay in the window name.
I can’t be the first to struggle with this. Any bitwarden users (or anyone who’s tried paying this way) have some advice?

- knows that many peoples’ entry to Bitcoin starts with a desire for NGU and morphs into fix-the-world passion over time
- recognizes that VCs and “influencers” are primarily to blame for the pump-and-dump scams that infuse crypto culture, and that many crypto holders are victims of misinformation
- tries (and sometimes fails) to set the ego aside and welcome crypto-users into Bitcoin, with a STRONG insistence upon and explanation of why we’re Bitcoin-only
- saves in Bitcoin, and encourages others to follow the same principle, knowing that most people will find bitcoin only when they need it
- please feel free to add to this list. I was just thinking about this and it gave me strong nostr community vibes ⚡️🫂
