Wrote a driver for osmo-trx to run on the PlutoSDR.
PlutoSDR is a relatively inexpensive Zynq (FPGA+ARM) and AD9361 SDR device.
It runs Linux and can run smaller applications directly on device.
I'm now using it to run a 2G/GSM base station setup. The transceiver runs directly on device, the rest of the network needs to be external.
Made possible through 3rd party timestamping FPGA gateware written by Phil Greenland.

Dirty contacts on memory modules, improperly seated CPUs, wrong CPU cooler mounting pressure, defective transmitters/receivers, etc. could maybe be detected before they become an actual problem.
I'm guessing that monitoring such parameters could catch reliability issues early, allowing operators to swap hardware before it completely dies, possibly corrupting data in the process (or causing packet loss on network links).
Thoughts? Have you seen such tooling?

Very few devices are capable of reporting these stats, though. Some Mellanox NICs can, some Ampere server CPUs can.
Why isn't there tooling to view/check the link budgets/eye diagrams on (for example) regular AMD CPUs?
I'm sure it exists, just hidden away under NDA.
Being able to measure, plot and alert with link budget values in a data center at scale (or even just a single home PC?) could be extremely helpful.

Modern PC hardware is real RF voodoo these days:
DDR5 runs at 5+ GHz, PCIe 5.0 runs at 16 GHz (!!), networking/SFPs running at 26+ GHz, often using advanced modulation like PAM4.
All of those ultra high speed links are doing some form of equalization/link training and their hardware is very often capable of measuring/reporting eye diagrams.

Just patched a long fiber link, which would've absolutely _sucked_ to get CAT.7 cable through.
The steel-armored OS2 cable is cheap and super robust/easy to work with. The LC connectors are even smaller than the hole for CAT.7 would've been.
This is nice \o/
What I want to say is: Don't be afraid of fiber for DIY networking people, it's awesome and often muuuch better than copper cable!
I also didn't have to do any annoying LSA+ terminations or crimps and the link will do 10G+ easily :)

I seem to react very strongly to E412 and E410, both of which are used in Spezi, Fanta, etc. (and other citrus sodas/products) to reduce visible pulp.
They are also often labeled under their full names as Johannisbrotkernmehl and Guarkernmehl.
I get dizzyness, stomach aches, general brainfog, etc. from consuming them.
Maybe you notice something similar?

You can really tell Adrian's blood sugar level from his videos, I think. :P
Often enough, he's one of the smartest repair guys on YouTube, other times you're _SHOUTING_ at the screen because it's painfully obvious what's happening and the conclusions are just wrong.
But his CRT repairs are generally well done and good advice.

und es ist nicht nur "insane rise in RAM pricing", es ist wirklich ein komplettes Cornern des Marktes.
Es gibt jetzt schon nur noch Restposten. Es wird mindestens ein halbes, vermutlich eher ein ganzes Jahr keinen Arbeitsspeicher, keine SSDs, keine Grafikkarten, etc. geben.
Mit Pech leiden darunter auch noch andere Geräte (Handys, etc.), aber die nutzen eigentlich ältere Chipgenerationen. Es ist ein furchtbarer Clusterfuck.

There are finally real USB3 (not Thunderbolt, not USB4 PCIe Tunneling) 10GbE NICs!
RTL8159 chipset-based, it uses the generic cdc_ncm driver on Linux.
Also seems to work on macOS and iOS.
TCP throughput between GPD Pocket 4 and MacBook Pro M1 seems a bit low at ~6.2 GBit/s, but that might also be due to the connected devices (both sides are using the same adapter).
I don't have another 10GBit/s device here right now, sorry.
Don't have a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 device, so I can't test the full speed!

PSA: Use the "accounturi" feature of Let's Encrypt CAA!
If you're hosting a safety/security-critical service, there's a way too unknown feature called "accounturi", that allows you to restrict TLS certificate issuance to a single Let's Encrypt account (and account private key).
You simply create a CAA record on your domain and put your LE account ID into it.
This means that attackers cannot issue TLS certificates and pull man-in-the-middle attacks on your host!

Do I happen to know anyone in the EU with a LaserDisc + Domesday Duplicator setup?
I really want to have a digital rip of a rare laserdisc, but I really don't feel like getting into a whole new ecosystem.
Willing to pay for the time and effort.
EDIT: My disc is a Japanese NTSC release, making things even harder...

TOSLINK is one of the very few consumer fiber optical standards. It transports digital, uncompressed PCM audio over plastic fibers.
Why not transport IP-over-Toslink instead?
It's a 1.536 Mbit/s data link after all...

I often try to use OpenOCD (just because), but often enough it just doesn't work, crashes, etc. and then I find myself switching back to Seggers propritary server (which also crashes, but less) :D

The J-Link works. Their software is not fantastic (sometimes crashes, sometimes behaves weirdly), but it‘ll get the job done.
With the Pro you have the excellent benefit of not having to deal with USB, which already removes a ton of pain. I used to only have the EDU model available to me and it was annoying to deal with…
But yes, it‘ll get the job done.

eh, it's far from impossible, it's just annoying.
I've been doing it for 15 years and you'll have to jump through some hoops and adhere to some rules (and yes, kiss some asses at big operators), but it's entirely possible.
