That is an excellent observation! In a wheel, 1 has to be counted as a prime! One that never gets eliminated from the wheel.
It is part of the symmetry. Numbers kind of tumble into p_n# (the product of primes) in the same way they tumble out of 0. Then the pattern repeats. Thus if 1 is coprime to 30 so is 31 and by symmetry, 29. You always get a free twin canidate at the endpoints. It make sense since p_n# is by definition a multiple of everything then p_n#±1 cannot be a multiple.
Generally I would define twins as modulo p_n# so 1 and 29 are considered a pair. But that is messy so I just told you about the consequent pair in the lifted set.
So yeah there are weird end point considerations.

If you take the first n primes. We'll call n=3. Then sieve the rest of the number line. You get rid of all the compsites of 2, 3, and 5. The very first composite that catches us by surprise isn't 2*7 or 3*7 or even 2*2*2*7, those are already accounted for. No the first unknown composite is 7*7. In this case p_(n+1) = 7. All the things that kinda look like primes below 49 really are prime.
So if I have some construction that sieves the first n primes the anything in that construction that is less than p_(n+1)^2 is a prime.
My problem is that I need to show that there is not one number but two that have a difference of two. There isn't anything in the definition of primes that insists they be there. I can count the number of twin primes in the whole set and I know the length of the set, so I can calculate the average gap between them directly.
That average says that there should be lots of twin pairs less than the square. But the twin primes are under no obligation to be evenly distributed in the first tiny sliver for my benefit.
Thus I need to say something else. In this case I am asking "how far apart can successive pairs get?"
Empirically it looks like the maximum gap is indeed less than the square of the next prime. So as far as I have results (n=22) I would be guaranteed at least 4 twin primes even if they were as far apart as they could possibly be.
The trend is actually increasing! Successive n seem to allow more and more twin primes less than the square.
But it is a very close thing. It grows slowly. Also I don't have a formula for it. The trend may reverse after Rayo's number or something.
I very much doubt it, we should be able to say something lame like "here is a super slow growing logarithm, that tracks the ratio of p_(n+1)^2/G(n). We don't know if the values are close to the curve but we do know that it crosses it infinitely often"

Yeah, I can't run that. Not even close. I got a Cursor subscription and have been using Grok 4.5. It seems to be the best bang for the buck.
I had it port some math code to CUDA so I could get some larger results. It spit out a number in an hour that would have taken days on my CPU and my CPU isn't slow.
Now I need about 2 days to get the next number 😛 and 4 months to get the one after that and 20 years to get the one after that.
I need more compute!!!

Just to nerd snipe you. The numbers l am looking for are:
The largest gap between successive pairs of twin coprimes in the nth wheel sieve.
Basically you find all the numbers less than the the first n primes multiplied together, p_n#, and coprime to it. Then isolate the twins, then find their central numbers. E.G. 12 for (11,13) and 18 for (17,19) then you find the gap between them. 6 in the example above. For 2*3*5=30 the centers are 0,12,18,30. So the largest gap is 12
The wheels are symmetric so you really only need to search the first half taking care to double the middle gap. So in our example above I count to 15, noting the gap of 12 then count 3 more to get to 15, double that to get 6. 12 is bigger than 6 so keep that. No need to do 30-18, that's just 12 again.
Same with larger wheels n=4, 2*3*5*7=210 and so on. Blows up fast. I have done to n=14.
Why? Well any element of the set < p_n^2 is prime if the maximum gap is < p_n^2 then no matter how well orchestrated the primes are in eliminating twin elements then there will always be some twin elements that are prime.
So I am trying to figure out what grows faster max_gap or p_n^2. So far the ratio p_n^2/max_gap is 3.2 or something and somewhat consistent. But still a long way to infinity.

There are certainly no guarantees in life. There is a reason all our fairytales involve orphans or kids whose parents can't afford to keep them. But the biggest leg up kids can get from parents is their time. All the special programs and opportunities in the world aren't worth a few weekends tinkering in the garage with your dad. Kids absorb information from their parents far more effectively than from other sources.
Then there is how old you are when your kids have kids. Raising kids is hard, really really hard. Having grandparents involved is a massive cheat. No one is ready to have kids ever. Hiw many things have you done right on your first try? Grandparents close the learning gap ensuring that your kids will be better prepared for adulthood than you are.
Grandparents are also a life (and money) saver with childcare. Being able to jump in whenever needed. If each generation waits too long to have kids, however, then the grandparents don't have the energy for it. Heck it is bad enough taking care of young kids in your fourties.
If you start early your parents can help and by your fourties the older kids can fill in with the younger ones as your body slows down.
Waiting gets you more cash, but less of everything else.

Carseats are so incredibly dumb. We have a car that magically seats 7 but it is nearly unusable legally. The 3rd row is so small that it only fits small children, but they are also too small to put a car seat in. The only solution is admit that the small seats are safe and fine for small kids and hope the police agree.

The economics of big families isn't dead. It is just harder to see. For a young family, it is dumb to have two incomes because that second income will most likely be completely swallowed by childcare expenses plus the extra car, the crappy meals etc. The only way it works is if both parents are high earners.
When the kids are grown, having many adult siblings is an incredible leg up. I literally cannot fail. If something goes south, I have 10 siblings who will make sure my kids are fed, we can keep our house, and have transportation. I haven't had to rely on that yet but siblings have. One sister's husband had leukemia (I think) but we managed it so he could recover. They are doing fine now.
Then late in life people start seeing tons of medical and care expenses. With a large family a significant portion of those expenses vanish as every pitches in to do much of the needed care so the parents can stay in their own home or their kid's home as long as possible. My own parents took in three of my grandparents.
We have gotten to the point where big families are a massive financial benefit but it is so obfuscated that no one can see it.

Gah! I forgot about air! I am a rocket enthusiast, I tend to think about combustion with pure oxygen. You do hydrogen and you get... Water plus a bit of hydrogen because you run fuel rich. The only thing safe to burn, for your sanity, is hydrogen. I am not advocating it as a fuel, but from a combustion products standpoint heavy hydrocarbons are a nightmare. Sort of and sort of not. They have their own authority i.e. they can ordain priests and bishops etc. But there is a heirarchy. To be part of the church is to be "in agreement" so to speak with the successor of Peter. So while they are of the same rank they don't have the same jurisdiction. A bishops is over his diocese and the Pope's is his diocese and the universal church.
It isn't necessarily supposed to look like secular hierarchies though and the pope is usually slow to intervene in another bishop's diocese. It is his job to mostly provide continuity and clarity when bishops disagree. When that happens everyone is supposed to do what Peter does. If they don't, then you get a schism and while the splinter is still valid (as long as they don't change the rite of ordination, that happened to the anglicans) they are no longer fully integrated, they lose the guarantee of the protection of the Holy Spirit.
It a logical consequence. In any disagreement at most one party can be correct. So if you assume a Spirit guiding the church to truth it can't make two things true. So you have to pick at most one. The only way to know which is if one was given the keys to the kingdom or something.. 😛
Not claiming anyone outside the church needs to believe any of that, but it is the logical conclusion from the premises we have.

He was a cardinal for a bit. I don't think that still holds. The rank of Cardinal is a bit weird in my mind. It isn't an actual ordained ministry. It is somewhat honorary. Bishop is the main thing, they are the successors to the original 12 apostles. The pope is just a bishop of a particular special diocese, Rome, and that gives him special jurisdiction over the whole church. So I guess he isn't a cardinal anymore but I am not sure how that works.

Yeah. I have trouble respecting intellectuals that don't have some math and physics background. In college I did a lot of teeth gritting when professors said stupid stuff that may have sounded smart to themselves and their little world, but was completely off the rails of reality and logic.
I am saying that as a guy who buys the Catholic story hook line and sinker. I don't care if you have untestable premises, I care immensely if what you are saying follows from those premises. Also learning a bit a science really helps people not say things that directly contradict things that CAN be measured.

Kinda, he got B.S. in mathematics from Villanova nearly 50 years ago. I doubt he could still integrate by parts. But he taught physics and math at a highschool for a while. It is more that he has the mental chops for it rather than that he still actively engages in it. He does play wordle though and I feel vindicated in choosing a different starting world every day since he does that too, just to keep things interesting.

Pretty sure we have had African popes before. It's just been awhile. Maybe they don't count as black though? But they probably had as much subsaharen ancestry as Leo.

The assertation that Jesus was an enemy of the state is not true*. Rendering the insinuation that his followers should be, moot.
If you have a logical reason that someone should act in a particular way, make that claim. Don't try to backdoor your ideas into people's belief systems. It is lazy and indicates that you might not have a real point.
*In order that my counter claim not be similarly unsupported. Jesus said the following the Pilate. "You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.”.
Jesus is acknowledging the authority of the state. He was condemned for being an enemy of the state but that was just the charge leveled by the leaders of the jews. Pilate found him innocent of that charge. He only had Jesus crucified to avoid a riot.

Hmm. I guess GPUs even consumer grade ones have jumped to the server gear side unintentionally. I don't really have any intention of getting rid of it until something with a lot more vram comes along. The 32gb in the 5090 isn't enough of a jump. The next level models would be in the 500 billion - 1 trillion parameter range.

I wonder if there will be a point where it makes sense to sell mine. I've had it for three years and it is worth more than when I bought it. I haven't accounted for inflation, but that is rare for computer hardware. At least historically.

But unlike electric cars it does things that aren't available in some other form. With EVs you have the option of using good ol' internal combustion cars. There isn't a petrol powered AI fallback. This is less like the introduction od electric cars and more like the introduction of the automobile 100+ years ago. Once an affordable option became available adoption was swift.
The main thing is that humans don't like expending energy. If they don't have to walk they will pay handsomely to drive. Thinking is the biggest drain on calories something like a quarter of our daily budget. People are intellectually lazy for important historical reasons. Do you really want to bet against mental sloth?

I'll take the counter. Right now the tooling is bad, but as it improvesbith demand and efficiency will creep up. There will be plenty of 100/month subscribers and I think even ordinary folk will be willing to pay for some things. Inserted advertising will sadly be a thing. But the leverage it gives a person is just too great to ignore. We are still kind of in the questionable usefulness stage. But I see signs that we could get 1000x better at a fraction of the compute. It just takes more memory and some hard work. But no show stoppers.
