Would you support Core reverting v30 changes to OP_RETURN?
From what I’ve seen of BIP110 proponents (and I can’t speak of Luke’s views because he blocked me years ago and I have previously warned of Bitcoin Luke’s Vision) - they are monetary maximalists, they do not want paper Bitcoin and will sacrifice NGU for that. So to say they want paper markets to dominate I’d say is completely mischaracterising them.
Core is fukt IMO.

Are you still thinking of Nostr as a replacement social media platform?
I’ve seen that as a deadend for a while. When you replace social media you don’t find another platform, you get off that shit and spend your time on other things.
I don’t think there’s another generation of platforms coming after people come to this conclusion.
But that’s why Nostr can succeed - it’s not a social media solution. It can become as ubiquitous as Login with Google and avoid all the spying and KYC shit and that’s where it can win.

Seeing Christmas be more broadly celebrated in Vietnam than in Australia was a shock to me.
Seeing how they celebrate their Lunar New Year where people travel half a day or more to go spend time with family and the whole place shuts down for ~2 weeks was something else.
Asia still values culture - they value something like Christmas more than ostensibly Christian countries.
They value family completely differently. I could write a whole thread about just Tet music which is all about going home to see family; seriously impressive propaganda, feels like the West in the 80s where music was made to unify people.
The West is no longer competing - they’re already done and they just don’t know it yet.
It’s going to take generations and guillotines to undo the rot of the West and nobody seems ready to face that reality.

Sounds good in theory, won’t work in practice.
Take sales commissions. Every year the Sales Org comes out with a new commission plan optimised for what the company wants to sell. They offer incentives to drive certain product lines, maybe bonuses for new customers or a specific target customer list, maybe replacing a specific competitor.
Sales people look at this and make their own plans - “how do I make the most money with the least effort?” they will ask themselves; standard human behaviour.
Invariably there will be a way for them to do that and the Sales team will always find it but in my experience, it never works well for the Sales Org.
They want new logos? Ok I’ll get you new logos if that’s going to line my pockets, but you’re going to churn way more of these customers than you expected because I’m not getting paid for retention and churn is YOUR problem.
Oh you want Services revenue because your delivery arm has overhired and insists Sales keep them occupied? I’ll sell your Services, shitloads of them, now my product Sales have cratered and that big lumpy rev you thought you were going to get is drying up because you decided to basically penalise me for doing what I did last year but your Services book is full and so is my cheque.
You want to take out your main competitor? No problem, I know every target company who has that competitor, I’m spending 100% of my time taking them out and not doing the other things you wanted because you disincentivised that.
That’s the Faustian bargain being driven when you couple compensation with results. You’ll get the results, at the expense of the other things you assumed would all also go your way.
Management always thinks they can have all 3 corners of the triangle, but that’s not how the world works.
And invariably what actually happens, which people who haven’t worked in Sales and seen this before don’t understand is, Management tend to actually penalise their best sellers.
They see they paid Joe Bloggs 7-figures last year, he made more money than the CEO! Yeah sure Joe sold 15% of the company’s revenue single-handedly last year, but he can’t be earning more than us Managers! Let’s cap his commissions and cut his territory and put his target up by 100% if he wants to earn 7-figures again this year.
Well Joe Bloggs just took a job at your competitor who he was taking out last year where he’ll easily make 7-figures with their Commission plan this year coming back to take all your customers..
Paying for results works. But what results and at what expense - getting that right rarely happens.

Thought of something like this a while ago.
A wedding event app to share guest photos with the bride and groom and also put up the photographers pics there after the event for guests to access. Avoiding the friction of sharing lots of photos across iOS/Android or having them all downscaled sending by messenger apps.
Put QR codes on the tables and guests can access an Insta style feed and upload their own pics to it, can stream it on the screens too.
Asians would go nuts for this.

Yes, absolutely hands down.
Vietnam doesn’t have a welfare system (no NDIS rorting here) as westerners would understand it and yet ~1% poverty rate compared to Aus at 14%.
Instead they heavily subsidise energy/petrol and maintain a huge military (people have said that’s partially a jobs program but you can also understand that they want to defend themselves given their history).
Much much lower income, business and land taxes, very little regulation - it’s way more free market here which is weird to think about.
Don’t have the government here trying to displace their people with foreign labour or imposing lunatic net zero policy.
You have much less interaction with the system here and generally peoples lives are improving due to the lack of interference. Karenism seeps into every aspect of your life and brow beats you while doing so.

Of all the content I’ve consumed in my life, 99.999% of it was produced after the Industrial Revolution.
Of all the humans who ever existed on Earth, ~95% of them lived before the Industrial Revolution.
I’ve thought about this a lot this year in my reading. The disparity indicates we moderns think humans knew little of value despite their mass existence over time. And its true they can’t inform us much of anything with regards our modern technology, but they had plenty worthwhile to say about the most important technologies that existed before we came to view only machines, as tech.
With this in mind I’ve completed my next read for #bookstr - The Spirit of the Law by Charles Montesquieu.
We are born into this world as fish in water, swimming in a sea of laws and regulations which we don’t understand the first things about other than, they apply and there are consequences if we don’t follow them. We’re never taught why they exist, or how they came to be.
And that’s what this book does a great job of doing. Ok, it’s 270 years old, so it’s not going to explain MANY things, but it covers a 2000+ year history of different societies and the laws they had, and seeks to understand why they had them.
It’s very interesting. He traces where power was diffuse through different branches (church, state, local etc.), the actual nature of “servitude” in the Middle Ages, how different peoples adopted different principles, how rulers successfully maintained order, how laws evolved, and importantly, how systems evolved.
He’s very much a “Statist”, but not in the sense we understand it today. He’s describing how order was kept across different peoples of different natures in different times and places. The intention of laws. The “spirit”. Not arbitrary governance for the sake of power, but how good and bad laws come to be and how we should understand them in historical context.
I won’t say it’s fascinating because at times its very dry and meanders through things which just aren’t interesting.
But it’s worthwhile. To understand the waters in which we swim. To understand the Chesterton’s Fence principles of why modern law is so fucked after so much was changed that really should not have been.
I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone other than nerds though. But if you really want to understand how “the system” came to be, the evolutions which laid the foundations for liberalism and communism and socialism and managerialism and everything in between, there are good foundations in here worth understanding.
