I recently tried the #appleTV trial subscription. It shows you video ads for other shows sometimes which is annoying...
But what's really cool is that when you have subtitle disabled and go back with the arrow keys it shows the subtitle for a few seconds. That is genius: most of the time I go back because I did not understand what was said. This solves a problem I did not even knew I had and I love that feature. And I hope that the other streaming sites copy this.

I agree that it would be time for a delta chat wikipedia article, though I would not sh*t on beeper or other projects to do so.
Sure we as delta chat devs have the ability to write such an article, but that would not feel right with me, as delta chat devs are not neutral about their own app (they have conflict of interest). That's also the main reason why I haven't contributed to that effort over the years, it feels wrong to write/edit "your own" wikipedia page yourself.

what could be interesting to you is that there are also alternative wasm runtimes in rust, so you also use those with tauri, because tauri apps are written in rust. So if webview wasm is not enough you could even bring your own wasm engine.

there is also a tauri version, we will publish the blogpost about that somewhere in the future.
Also this browser version is not standalone, it still requires one server instance per user that runs deltachat/chatmail core. It kinda works under wine, at least it did for me with https://github.com/mrshmllow/affinity-nix
But it is still not working flawlessly, like there are still some glitches, sometimes it does not save settings across sessions, it is a bit slow sometimes and stuff like this.
I believe it wouldn't be that impossibly hard/costly to fix the issues, canvas/serif could hire https://www.codeweavers.com to help them to make it run better on wine.

Maybe you'll find an algorithm under that name.

why be so discouraged? Just keep working on Vidzy and make it better than loops, competition is a good thing. @npub1xsv…q6he is not some god, he just made better decisions in some areas (mainly in marketing and design). Think about what you can do to improve.
A possible future could be that Loops brings people in contact with the fediverse, but those people then switch to Vidzy IF it is better at that point. I believe that Vidzy could be a lot better than it currently is. Don't give up!

And some background on the current default:
The default of adding a new line came to be, because we were focusing on email at the time and there you can not delete an accidentally sent email.
Now we focus more on #chatmail and on there everyone uses #deltachat and you can delete and edit messages that were already sent.
Most other messengers use "Enter to send".

Should we change the default keyboard shortcut for sending messages in #deltachat_desktop #deltachat
The question is about whether the `"Enter"` key should create a newline or send the message.
The other shortcuts will stay the same:
- Ctrl/Cmd + Enter is always send
- Shift + Enter is always newline

chatmail core usually takes between 14mb and 60mb of RAM (depending on account count), so the 16 MiB of the #Precursor may be a bit small.
So would require some tinkering to either make #chatmail core take less memory or some swapfile magic.
I guess to make it speedy you would want to load an encryption module onto the FPGA next to the cpu.

It is not as hard as you think, environment variables are a basic thing, just start the app from the terminal by it's file path and write the variables in front:
var_name=value path/to/my/program
No compiling involved.

sounds like a good idea, though we would need to implement support for JMAP into chatmail core (we haven't done that so far, because JMAP is still very niche (not much adoption) and the annoying part of email remains, which is mime parsing. Though his would be a good use case for implementing JMAP)

Browsers have local storage (limited to 4mb, key value store), indexedDB and some browser also have file system apis. google made great progress in making a WASM sqlite port performant. That being said:
if the email server does not delete emails, then you could modify delta chat to only delete old attachment, but in a way where you can redownload them.
-> like revert them to the "download on demand" state that they get in when you have set a limit of what attachment sizes are auto downloaded

Though the data usage of delta chat is not that high, I have 1,9 gb for 112K messages. 400mb are the messages, the rest are files. I have this account for 2 years already. Potentially there is still space to save, because this account was created before deduplication was introduced and we haven't enabled this feature for old files yet.
But this is nothing that would not fit on a budget phone.

for a very busy work chat @npub1qfg…mum6 might better suited.
Delta Chat is offline first and does not have group admins.
Though if you only share links to your big files on a local server the message size should be fine, in the future there are also some ideas of integrating this in the app, so those messages look like normal messages.
You could also have a bot in each group that publishes a searchable archive in your company network.

unless you are using your own fork of delta chat you don't need to host your own relay server, you just need to modify your email server to send the pings over our push relay, which has the secret keys that apple needs, to accept the push notifications for the app id of the delta chat that is published to the appstore.
Ideally we would have an easy plugin or a spec on how to integrate push into existing email servers, but for now you'd have to read the chatmail sourcecode.

so it fails to find the log file that should have been created by the tauri logger plugin. Maybe try to create a new folder somewhere then pointing then env var `$XDG_DATA_HOME` to that directory?
Could be a race or a problem in where log files are created. I couldn't reproduce your issue yet.

You can modify the chatmail relay to keep the messages, but you should probably then make it invite only so you don't just provide tons of free hosting space to random internet strangers.
Alternatively if we know more about the problem case we could develop a solution like automated encrypted backups to a cloud service or sth similar.

If they have problems making backups, won't they also have problems remembering their password or keeping their e2e decryption key?
wouldn't that then mean that the history server side would be not completely secure so that you can perform a "password reset" / "restore account" service?
Or is the problem regular backups and it would be less of a problem on a server that keeps the messages so importing an old backup would redownload all messages.

the path it tries to find accounts in is actually:
~/.config/DeltaChat/accounts
and when that folder exists it looks for ~/.config/DeltaChat/accounts/accounts.toml
in your case it found sth, so it started migration from an older format, is there sth in the accounts_old folder?
about the permissions, I have the same thing, permissions only for the owner, tough permissions in the account folder are "drwxr-xr-x".

Could you try to download and run https://github.com/chatmail/core/releases/download/v1.156.2/deltachat-rpc-server-x86_64-linux ? that't the dc core binary that desktop failed to load/find in your screenshot.
If it doesn't work it would be interesting to know any clues to why and wether the newest core from https://github.com/chatmail/core/releases still has the problem.

tauri version source code is meanwhile available on https://github.com/deltachat/deltachat-desktop/tree/main/packages/target-tauri
not yet ready for daily use but basic functionality like sending, receiving messages and files and html emails work. notable things that are still in development are notifications, tray icon and webxdc.
Also at this point in time you need to compile from source as there are no "releases" yet.

we are not really about big numbers, like we can not even tell exact download numbers because places like f-droid don't track download counts.
I doubt that big numbers are a good argument for a privacy centric messengers that is not about big communities nor social media but about communication with your close social circle.
Like delta chat has no global discovery and no moderation features so far.

I know that desktop typing can be slow, but I thought this would only appear on big accounts and when typing super fast. I plan to rewrite the code for the composer/message input in a few months after I'm done with the deltachat tauri project. Though a video would be helpful maybe there is a new issue that makes it even slower?
