I think Suno's starting to plateau. They're handing out free previews of their v5.5 model and I can't really tell a difference. 4.5 already made music good enough I listen to it in my free time, and I can't really see a way up from there without something like greater specificity in composition and whatnot, but nobody generating AI music cares THAT much about getting it right.
Hope they're profitable, I guess. I'd be sad if the site got taken down by the imminent bubble burst, it makes cool songs that bring me a lot of joy.

@nprofile…xju8 this is also what makes core cast of vigilantes, particularly knuckleduster, so interesting to watch.
knuckleduster is truly and unambiguously a dangerous violent criminal smuggler. he smuggles guns into japan to hunt down bad guys. he financially supports various black market groups to get his tools. every single action he takes isn't really "beating the bad guy," he is, at best, enabling the growth of lower-level career criminals to take out more destructive ones. he's buying today by spending tomorrow. he can save lives, but he can't solve the problem long-term. really, nothing can. his motivations aren't particularly pure, either. he places his personal grievances and his family above society, and doesn't care who he hurts to protect his daughter.
he's simultaneously a moral actor, an amoral actor, an evildoer, and good guy, all depending through which lens you view the rules of society and how long a timescale you judge his actions by. even if you peg him as a villain, he's so charismatic you can't bring yourself to hate him. his motivations and actions are so relatable, you can easily ask yourself "would i do the same in his situation" and have no clear answer. would YOU break every rule of your people to save your daughter, even though your daughter will have to grow up around your people afterwards, and breaking those rules make the world more dangerous?
THAT'S what bnha lacks: it starts off preaching the moral ambiguity of people abandoned by society trying to make their own way in life as villains, but it delivers "my parents beat me growing up so i'll blow up japan." incredibly immature delivery of a thoughtful premise

@nprofile…xju8 the complete inability or unwillingness to demonstrate institutional failure that led to believable villains still makes my hate burn hotter than the sun
vigilantes ACTUALLY demonstrates how that would work, including the other side of it where two-bit thugs abuse the welfare system, but that's why vigilantes is the better series. showing eraserhead literally overlooking drug deals and hanging out with those drug dealers to get information the police can't legally get their hands on is a great way to show how dysfunctional society is deep down. especially when the cops have to fake "anonymous tips" from a violent criminal who got information on drug flow by going over to china and violently shaking down people for information
it paints a wonderful picture of how deeply fake a peaceful society would have to be to handle widespread superpowers

unironically tho i sincerely believe the first 100 chapters of bnha are the best shonenslop every put to pen and the next 600 are it systematically squandering every last drop of potential it had
there's a lot of really complex themes and character moments in those first 100 chapters that, if properly capitalized on, would have made it potentially one of the greatest stories told period (not just manga), and then it just fucked everything up forever
