Nice! I'll try to dig up some pics of neat ones I have growing in my little oak wooded corner. I've got some wonderful mushrooms, mosses, lichens... and oaks pair with a very active mycelial network, so I "feel" a lot of communication going on where I live. 🤭

We won't abandon it, but when you sustain multiple injuries that knock you over, knock the wind out of you, & make you lose your balance all at once, you need a minute to regroup. I haven't felt so stunned & broken since my husband died! That said, the Democratic "machine" make SO many mistakes the last several years, they really need to reflect & evaluate who Democrats are supposed to be. Our message has really strayed.

I find a lot of these 'analytical' articles crass & distasteful. We're talking about an incredibly important moment in our history, but the author uses street language like "their haul", as if (unfortunately necessary) fundraising is like a bank robbery or smash-&-grab burglary. It demeans the almost life/death seriousness of this race, imo.

Yes, but France has a very long history of antisemitism itself. My own family lived in the very eastern part of France that, centuries ago, went back & forth between France & Germany (before Germany was unified), then they fled to Westphalia about 700 years ago, during one of France's pogroms, & lived in Westphalia until Hitler.

But there were also people who helped Jewish people. I had a cousin (German Jew) who escaped from CC, fled to Denmark & was part of the underground. You would never have imagined it - he was mild, quiet, gentle. He never spoke about it. I only knew because my grandmother told me. And the only Danish words he ever spoke were things meant to amuse us kids.

In 1972, I had a summer ER aide job tin our (Catholic) hospital. We had 2 young surgeons just home from Vietnam, & their way of coping was very much like Hawkeye & Trapper. They'd come in the ER entrance in cutoffs & huaraches, cursing, smoking cigars, & making Sister Audrey "respectfully angry". "Doctors, PLEASE!"

Well, it also fairly persistently demonstrated the actual results of war, in a way that could seep into people's consciousness in a "painless", funny way, but still affect their feelings about war. Too many people see "war" as a game between adversaries, not young people killing or maiming each other, not even really understanding why.

My father had the great pleasure of knowing him (🤮💩) in the early/mid '70's, when he decided to invade Manhattan from Queens, to upgrade his 'class' & reputation. (New Yorkers HATE TFG). He said he was a habitual liar, had zero ethics & no morals, was slimy & dishonorable. Dad was a non-judgmental WWII vet, so that was a shocking proclamation. He refused to be associated with him in any way.

I guess once a narcissistic megalomaniacal psychopath starts to decompose, they have to find props and anti-props to improve their visuals, their self-image... and to be able to point out how the lack of props proves how deficient the opponent is. I got pulled away for a couple of days, but wanted to say there is a house in a small town in Westphalia that was built in about 1650, by my 8 or 9X greatgrandfather, before Jews were required to have formal last names. His name, Pinchus, was engraved in the lintel over the front door. That home still stands, with the lintel, & is occupied by a Gentile family who know the home's history. Some of my family have visited, taken modern pics.

My family didn't/doesn't know Yiddish, but having been German for 700 years, French before that... there are a lot of historical family stories that happen to be about Jewish Germans, etc. My family members were shocked by Hitler, bc they saw themselves as Germans who happened to be Jewish, as opposed to Jews in Germany.

Native Americans, Mauri, Mongols, Ethiopians, and ........... the Jews! Books like The Source and Exodus and The Physician, to name a few, draw from stories told for centuries and millennia that give us insights into how people lived, interacted & thought. I love archaeological/anthropological/historical stories, including novels. (And yes, when it came out, I gobbled up Clan of the Cave Bear - willing suspension of disbelief.🤷🏻‍♀️ ) 😄

The importance of oral histories of families, societies and peoples were the bases of so many of our greatest stories/books. Who isn't drawn to a good story or raconteur?! I know my maternal history because of stories passed down by the women.

Hi... tangentially - when I was a kid, our neighbors & very close family friends had a camp in upstate NY for deaf and autistic children. (Back then, nobody really knew what autism was). It wasn't far from our summer house, so we would go to visit, play and also help out. We learned some basic sign language. The mom was the principal at the Lexington School for the Deaf, in NYC. I wonder if they knew about each other. Back then, specialty camps were likey rare.🩵

I have books from high school by Sartre, Ionesco, Camus, Ferlinghetti, etc. I had the first editions of both of John Lennon's early books, but my sister stole them from me in 1976, and we weren't able to go to Montana and stage a coup. But I have my original Beach Boys, Beatles, Stones, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Simon & Garfunkel and all those wonderful early-mid 60's records. They're likely warped and scratchy now (like me!), but they're old friends.

I have the pressed flowers in a small frame my grandfather gifted me back then. I have most of the original vinyl records. I had a couple of the hippie clothes, but last year I finally gave a few to my granddaughter & niece, both kindred spirits. A couple of other trinkets...
