Yeah.
I also think that a magazine or a blog makes for a better reading experience than a chronological feed in the case of essays, and this preserves the categories and reading order regardless of edits and tags. It doesn’t require any matching hashtags, which are often used to sort articles and impose structure.
Also, it has syndication built in. It’s not limited to one author, and you can include a guest essay in any category, or even include a category that someone else is curating.

My favorite feature are the blogs, though I like to call them magazines.
A magazine is composed of nostr events, so it’s distributed via relays and can be styled and published in multiple ways in multiple places, and all you need is the naddr of the root event, then you can reconstruct the navigation and content to build a webpage.

It’s also a manufactured inefficiency in the system that inflates the sense of how expensive and complicated airports are. When really, you are forced to spend time bored out of your skull in a mall waiting to board.

When you get up in the morning, spend the first half hour outside; on the balcony with your coffee, on a short walk, whatever you have available no matter the weather. It will help reset your internal clocks. Stick to a set time every day, no weekend sleep-ins.
Avoid eating late into the evening. If you start feeling like a snack, your body has begun to wind down for sleep. Head to bed instead of the kitchen. Use this as a signal. You can override the body’s sleep schedule, but doing so raises your stress hormones, because it’s supposed to be an emergency measure. Higher stress means less deep sleep, and more anxiety the next day.
These two things are mostly doable no matter your lifestyle.

I went to music school for a bit and was not great at it. Then at some point I realized that the scales followed a pattern. I then suddenly knew what I was doing on a test. But the jump was so obvious, and apparently unexpected, the teacher accused me of cheating. I argued. Which was also totally out of character. We never resolved it. Well, broadly useful paid relays have existed for some time. Most users ignore them entirely.
Super niche interests have a problem of volume. There tend to be five users or less talking about any topic not bitcoin or nostr istelf.
What I’m actually trying to solve for here is the flood of boring and utterly pointless articles one needs to wade through to find the gems, because follows are too narrow and ‘global’ is invaded by aliens. So it’s more about community curation. Which, likely, will only appeal to a certain demographic.

I’m currently running through scenarios that would make Essayist work without zap receipts which are actually great as a three way check on membership: the sender, the recipient and the relay can all agree that it’s valid, and they all also have an option to object. It’s just really obvious.
Attestations could just be published only to the one relevant relay, and the recipient has an incentive to confirm a payment, so readers stick around for next month.

I do have a local relay that aggregates from multiple public relays, but I’m deliberately limiting the scope of kinds I’m pulling in. But I am being oportunistic about events that don’t fall into my immediate sphere of concern, and those I try to fetch on demand, when they come up.
So I might find a highlight, then look for the article it’s referencing. Of find a nested kind:1 in an article and try to fetch that, then it’s comments/thread.
It all revolves around articles, so I’m not storing all possible kind:1s, for instance.
I’m trying to scale it down enough so I don’t have to negotiate with relays for extra access, so I can keep my client resilient to decentralization of relays and do outbox.
On the other hand, I’ll invariably end up with most traffic going through major relays, so yes, we’ll likely need to coordinate that.

I’m mostly bothered by latency. I’m running a client that does event lookups server-side, trying to serve a pool of users simultaneously, reusing connections and collating reqs. I’m still tweaking the whole thing, and can’t claim to have it all figured out, but it seems to me that relays are aimed at browsers requesting latest events, and my typical filters by a/A, d, etc tags take a long time to resolve.

I keep thinking women used to hold up a lot of economically invisible structures, and were lured into monetizing their contribution in the job markets. The job market needed women more than women neded the job market.
The bait was personal financial independence, but it was at the expense of unmeasured social capital. The market absorbed a huge quantity of labor that had previously existed outside formal economic accounting. Care work, food preparation, child supervision, elder care, therapy, tutoring, cleaning, emotional support, and social coordination increasingly became services to be bought, outsourced, or institutionalized. This made the economy look larger, because more human activity is now monetized. But some of that “growth” was not genuine civilizational surplus. It was the conversion of formerly embedded relationships into paid transactions.
We are now, possibly, at the point of realizing we have misjudged the value of unpaid work and it’s scope.
This point is skewed female, obviously, and not the complete picture, but still.

The philosophy I’m building #decentnewsroom around is that no article is an island. Curation matters on multiple levels. Publications, follow packs, tag clusters.
What I’d like to achieve is to have readers return to it even if they are not reminded by a newsletter or a DM that a publication exists, but to treat it like a nice place to hang out and return to voluntarily.

There’s a multi-step form that asks for details about the root index and the categories. Then you can add articles, or leave the categories empty. On the last step, you’ll be given events to sign.
The structure can be edited anytime, later on. The events are parametrized replaceable.
You’ll be able to add articles into the categories in the wizard, or from each article’s page, if you log in. For logged in users there’s a dropdown that lets you choose the category to place the event into, and a replacement event is generated for you to sign with the article included.

Well. If you don’t insist and don’t know what fronted does in the background to produce responsive pages, it will derail quickly. There will be miles of consecutive fixes for self-inflicted problems, when all that was needed was to adjust a too-tight constraint on some element that broke the flow. It’s not customizable at the moment, but it’s going to be.
The front page is currently a demo magazine with various authors, but each author has a dedicated page and longform articles are server-side rendered.

Communi-keys have their own thing going on. It all overlaps on some level, but my focus are publications. I’m aiming at a special purpose interface that is clear and useful, specialized for this one thing - creating magazine style publications.

I’m not sure I follow. As far as I can tell, you’re saying that there are multiple ways available already to achieve a curated list on nostr. I’m aware. I just like this one for all the possibilities I can see for this and I’m trying to implement them to see if it will work out as I imagined. The root index event that describes the magazine is replaceable and can be updated whenever and the npub that created the magazine can also publish an RSS-like nostr feed.
An editor or publisher would create a magazine npub first, then the events, instead of publishing with their own npub. And the root event can be used as a reference to build out the whole magazine either with my client or a custom web interface in any style.

In nostr terms it’s nested curated publication events, kind 30040, like Alexandria uses, to define the magazine and its categories and possibly subcategories, and those contain a sorted list of articles. It functions as a folder structure.

Yes, with a baked-in feature that it is not limited to one author/npub. A curated collection of lists.
