The Digital Chamber and the Illinois Blockchain Association are suing to block Illinois' first-in-the-nation 0.2% tax on digital asset transactions.
Their core argument is Illinois is taxing technology, not economics. A tokenized Treasury security gets taxed. The same Treasury held in book-entry form does not. A stablecoin transfer gets taxed. A dollar sent by ACH does not.
As the complaint puts it: "Illinois has not taxed a new kind of property; it has taxed an old kind of property recorded in a new way."
The plaintiffs argue the law violates the Illinois Uniformity Clause and the US Constitution's Commerce and Due Process clauses by imposing different tax treatment on economically identical assets based solely on the ledger technology used to record them.
Noncompliance is a Class 3 felony. The law takes effect January 1, 2027.

Newly unclassified documents released by Senator Rand Paul reveal that on May 7, 2020, CIA Chief Operating Officer Andy Makridis led a briefing with Dr. Scott Gottlieb, the former FDA commissioner and Pfizer board member.
In that briefing, Gottlieb told the CIA that national seroprevalence was "about 20-25%," while discounting the Santa Clara and Los Angeles antibody studies that were being attacked in public.
Three weeks earlier, Gottlieb had publicly estimated national exposure at around 5% and treated Santa Clara as a hotspot outlier. By the time of this private CIA briefing, he was giving the agency a number four to five times higher.

OpenAI says its next model Astra is the first to hit "Critical" cybersecurity capability.
That means it can find zero-day vulnerabilities and build working exploits across hardened systems without human guidance.
"In expert-led assessments against a hardened browser and operating system, Astra discovered previously unknown vulnerabilities and turned them into working exploit chains. It built a full browser-compromise chain that escaped the sandbox and executed commands on the host."
In testing, Astra scored 100% on ExploitBench and discovered two actual zero-days during evaluation. OpenAI delayed parts of development after the Hugging Face agent hack, paused frontier training for two weeks, and hardened its training infrastructure.
On jailbreak resistance, Astra refuses 91.5% of disallowed cyber requests vs 59% for the previous model.

Germany's largest public pension fund, BVK, is being sued by its asset manager Deutsche Finance for allegedly controlling a $2 billion US real estate portfolio while publicly posing as a passive investor.
The portfolio included the Transamerica Pyramid and the Coca-Cola Building. Deutsche Finance claims that when US commercial real estate softened after 2020, BVK failed to approve the budgets, financing, and leases needed to protect the portfolio, contributing to losses estimated around $988 million.
The suit alleges BVK then ran a PR campaign blaming Deutsche Finance for the losses, made statements to regulators and the Bavarian Parliament, and withheld $31 million in contractually guaranteed fees.
Deutsche Finance is suing for breach of contract, defamation, and deceptive trade practices. BVK has previously rejected similar accusations.

The signed tarballs are the release. Operators can verify checksums and maintainer signatures now. Source inspection and reproducible builds come later.
But the Docker images automatically published under elementsproject/lightningd:v26.06.7 and latest reported the correct version on startup without actually containing the security fixes. A version label is not an artifact.
Operators should use the signed tarballs, verify the signatures, restart lightningd, and not treat the current Docker tag as an upgrade while the warning remains on the release page.
Core Lightning says AI models are increasing the number and speed of security reports its maintainers must triage. Cheaper bug discovery means more reports for maintainers and more tools for attackers. Release integrity and operator verification become the bottlenecks.
A fix only matters if operators can verify that it reached the artifact they installed.

The US just secured majority control of more than 65 billion barrels of Venezuelan crude oil reserves, reportedly at no cost to the American taxpayer.
If the details hold up, this is a massive geopolitical and energy move. For context, US proven oil reserves currently sit around 44 billion barrels. Adding 65 billion barrels would more than double that overnight, vaulting the US past Saudi Arabia and Russia in total proven reserves.

Bitcoin's quantum debate just moved from paper to mainnet.
Transaction 305a24ff...ab07 sits in block 964,199. It's a 1,321-vbyte spend built with Quantum Safe Bitcoin (QSB), a research construction from Avihu Levy and Tom Giladi that uses bitcoin's existing Script rules to protect an output under hash-based assumptions instead of relying on the hardness of secp256k1.
No soft fork. No new opcode. A miner accepted the transaction and bitcoin validated it under the rules every node already enforces.
The construction uses a HORS-like one-time signature and a hash-to-signature puzzle inside legacy Script. ECDSA and OP_CHECKSIG still appear in the machinery because they're tools available to Script, but the security claim rests on hash preimage resistance rather than the elliptic-curve assumption a quantum computer would attack.
There are limits. The transaction was non-standard under default relay policy and reached a miner through MARA's Slipstream service. It protects bitcoin intentionally committed to this unusual script. It doesn't reach backward and protect every exposed public key on the UTXO set.
It doesn't give wallets a usable address format, recovery flow, multisig policy, derivation standard, or migration path. And it doesn't answer what happens to coins that never move before a capable quantum machine arrives.
Levy called it a "research quirk", which is exactly right. The design crossed the line from a paper into consensus-valid bitcoin. That shouldn't be confused with a ready-made path to post-quantum security.
Multiple teams are working on the problem. BIP 360 continues to develop a soft-fork path. Hash-based schemes are being actively benchmarked. Material progress is being made without anyone panic-shipping a consensus change.
The alarmists can turn the volume down. The work is happening.

The (BlockchainAssn) is arguing that customer identification rules for stablecoin issuers under the GENIUS Act should only apply to primary market activity, not secondary market.
Their position is that if stablecoins are sent peer-to-peer after issuance, the issuer has no visibility into the transaction and no technical ability to identify the parties involved.
They're also arguing that one-off redemptions shouldn't trigger full account status, comparing it to cashing a check at a bank rather than opening an account.
On identity verification, they want issuers to have the flexibility to use digital wallets, verifiable credentials, and zero-knowledge proofs instead of requiring customers to submit personal data directly. Their claim is that ZKP technology can be more reliable than traditional methods like database checks.
They're pushing for issuers to be shielded from liability when they rely on another regulated institution's KYC and that institution fails. Banks already get this protection and the Association argues stablecoin issuers should too.

New research from Matthew Boyer, (cygnal), and Neighborhood Bitcoin surveyed registered voters to find out which Bitcoin messages actually land with everyday Americans.
The results should change how Bitcoiners talk about Bitcoin.
94% of voters have heard of Bitcoin and 61% want to learn more about owning it. But 74% have little to no trust the dollar will hold its value. The audience is there and the macro tailwind is real.
The messages that work best are the ones that address people's actual concerns about control, safety, security, access, and ease of use. "You decide how much, even if that's just $10" and "You can track the activity yourself" were the top performers. Personal control and low barriers to entry resonate.
The messages that flopped are the ones Bitcoiners love most. "Digital gold" confused focus group participants and ranked near the bottom of all 19 messages tested. Industry jargon doesn't land with normal people.
The most trusted messengers aren't influencers or CEOs. 33% said they'd trust a financial advisor they already work with, 25% a retirement planning expert, and 23% a friend or family member who owns Bitcoin. Everyday Bitcoiners are the most powerful advocates for the next wave of adoption.
After reading the tested messages, "not interested at all" dropped from 39% to 32% and "very or extremely interested" rose from 19% to 24%.
Stop talking about Bitcoin the way Bitcoiners talk about Bitcoin. Start with what people actually care about.

OpenAI's revenue grew much slower than Anthropic's last quarter, and for the first time ever, Anthropic actually pulled ahead.
Anthropic more than doubled its revenue to $11.6 billion in Q2 and turned a small operating profit. OpenAI came in at $6.7 billion, up 18%, but its operating loss swelled to $12.3 billion, nearly twice what it brought in.
What's driving the gap? Anthropic's enterprise deals. They've been quietly locking in business contracts while OpenAI continues to burn cash at a staggering rate.
OpenAI's CFO says their July run rate already topped the full Q2 number, so they expect Q3 to pick up. But with both companies heading toward IPOs, OpenAI at around $1 trillion and Anthropic at $2 trillion, the optics aren't great.
Anthropic is growing faster and making money. That's a tough story to compete with when you're trying to convince public market investors.

The insurance-private credit machine is finally getting marked.
(NickNemo17) dropped a video walking through the ties between Guggenheim, Mark Walter, Sammons Financial Group, and a wider web of insurers and private assets.
Federal prosecutors and the SEC are reportedly examining disclosure and related-party questions involving insurers linked to Walter.
Sammons' 2023 audited financials said Guggenheim Partners Investment Management managed 87% of its investment portfolio. After a 2024 restructuring, Midland National said Guggenheim was no longer considered an affiliate.
Yet current Guggenheim disclosures still describe Sammons as holding substantial economic and voting interests and remaining a significant source of advisory fees.
Sammons reports $152.3 billion of total assets and $21.0 billion of private credit. Strong reported metrics. They also show why the usual exposure-as-a-percentage-of-assets framing can lull people to sleep. When a forced mark arrives, it hits capital, surplus, and available liquidity.
Bloomberg reported Sammons bonds fell to their lowest level since issuance. That doesn't make Sammons insolvent. It tells us lenders want to be paid more to carry the uncertainty.
The mechanism is simple. An asset manager gets access to insurance liabilities, collects management fees, and directs policyholder capital into privately valued assets that rarely face an outside mark.
For years, opacity let this machine avoid the mark. The public market has started demanding one.

Anthropic's annualized revenue hit $65 billion by the end of July, more than 7x its run rate at the end of 2025.
Q2 revenue came in above $11.5 billion, up from $787 million in the same quarter last year and $4.73 billion in Q1 2026. The company is now posting positive adjusted operating income.
