I still remember Hurricane Katrina, which left Louisiana a wreck, oh, but the French Quarter was rebuilt!
In the last 3 years alone we've had multiple hurricanes, extreme wildfires, and one epic chemical spill that has left a massive wasteland in the middle of Ohio. And in each and every case, both state and federal governments did next to nothing.

I've been following Wayland ever since it first appeared.
It has a number of fundamental improvements that I agree with, but it also has a huge number of edge cases that are still not covered. I'm concerned because there is a concerted effort to completely eject Xorg from every major distribution IN THE SHORT TERM, and this will leave an unknown (and substantial) number of hardware configurations out in the cold.

one of the greatest boons to recent day retrocomputing has been the RP2040/2350 in the Raspberry Pico devices. Its programmable IO macroblock has opened the floodgates for a whole new class of software defined peripherals e.g. PicoMem and PicoGUS on the PC... essentially deleting FPGAs and CPLDs from many designs, and replacing them with a part that's 50 cents in singles.

For anyone who wrote MS-DOS device drivers: The Device Driver Header (DDH) ddh_attribute field specifies device driver characteristics. One of them is IBM format vs non-IBM format block device. What is the functional difference?
