how "salvation" works in fact is mysterious and seems to require something that in the first place you are either born with or not and then, having that X factor thing whatever that makes you eligible, you need discipline in pursuing that which Jesus is pointing at throughout the Gospels.

yeah i can't say that that seems to align with Christ's own words. the fact is that every kind of Christianity ascribes a differing primacy to different parts of Scripture. for my own part, Christ is Lord and the Gospels are primary (with the Fourth Gospel being chief) and anything that contravenes His Word or example is suspect at best even if it's in the Bible.

Jesus has several verses wherein he directly describes how people have no idea what he's really saying because it isn't possible for them to know. people aren't created equal in any sense and "salvation" isn't an opportunity available to most people.

suposedly universalist Christianity is directly contradicted by Jesus Christ's own words on the matter.
the Christian teaching is a stern religion, infinitely far removed from the sentimental Christianity taught by modern preachers. through all His teaching there runs the idea that the "Kingdom of Heaven," whatever those words really mean, *belongs to the few,* that strait is the gate and narrow is the Way, and only few can pass through and thus attain "salvation," and that those who do not go in are but chaff which shall be burned.

the idea of the exclusiveness and difficulty of "salvation" is so definite and oft repeated in the Gospels that all the lies and hypocrisy of modern Christianity is necessary in order to forget it and to attribute to Jesus the sentimental idea of *general* salvation.
