I don't mind renaming everything, I honestly prefer that to keeping up with metadata.
I get a lot of use out of MP3 tag too. It's just these modern self-host things seem to think metadata is king and folder structure means nothing.
Going from Windows to Linux, it took a lot to find anything that compared to foobar2000 since it let me simply "Sort by folder structure"
Quod Libet was the closest I got. Not perfect, but I can cope.

Jellyfin has this problem too. If you have a series with missing episode# metadata, it'll sort by title name, and be completely out of whack. The filename might have the episode number in it, which lets it sort fine in a real file browser, but there's no way to sort by filename or even just disable metadata altogether.

And when merging multi-part book files with m4b-tool, you'd have to keep both just to keep the original torrent seeded.
I'd really prefer folder-structure as primary... Just take that and apply metadata within it.
Rather than the seemingly-preferred Audiobooks/Book/Book.m4b structure which seems like a nightmare to maintain in a world where torrent uploaders are naming their folders things like "1 Pulse" (Jeremy Robinson - Chess Team Adventure #1 - Pulse)

Installed Audiobookshelf on TrueNAS Scale in about 10 minutes. Surprisingly simple process compared to my experiences with plex/jellyfin/syncthing.
The app integration seems really slick too, clearly a lot of work put in.
I spent more time organizing files and trying to get them to mesh properly. I like the structure Audiobooks\Author\Series\Book\Book.m4b.
That seems to work for the most part, but it also makes an entry with all the books of a series in sometimes-random order. Annoying.

Put simply, Hollywood industry makes content for theaters.
Theaters don't translate to Netflix (where most viewers only have left/right channels).
Nobody bothered to bridge the gap except the "soundbar" speaker makers, who promise a single-purchase, easy-setup device that mimics a "real" home theater installation.
Autists online rip the movies and manhandle the audio into stereo-tolerable forms, for free. But it's always with lower quality video than the original.

So when there's a 720p rip (YIFY comes to mind, since I think they gained a lot of ground trying to fit releases into a single CD-R at 700 MB), there's probably been some autist behind the scenes pulling parameter strings to solve this problem after the fact, which is harder than just doing both in the first place.

They're generally mixed for theater situations aka 5.1 (5 speakers, one in center, and 4 in the corners of a square room, plus one subwoofer)
Taking that down to 2ch (just left/right) while maintaining single-volume-level clarity takes a lot of math and/or careful tuning. So most audio engineers avoid it simply because bluray has the capability of playing it.

Describe how cooked I am if I instinctively reach for the 720p movie rip because it's more likely to have 2ch audio. I hate the fact that movies are mixed for 5.1 primarily. Why the fuck do I need to buy a soundbar to enjoy movie at home?

Yeah I think I've had a bit of that, not too painful at the time but it led to infection. Caused (or was coincidental with) fever symptoms, so needed oral antibiotics for a bit. Dentist said if it happened again I'd likely need to have it yanked. Been pretty religious about hygiene since, whipping out the NaClO2 mouthwash whenever I see or feel the signs. So far so good 🤞

Can highly recommend swishing with NaClO2 mouthwash twice daily. CloSYS is a brand name but it's easy to make on your own for far cheaper if you've got a good scale and some distilled water. Just take it down to 0.1% (1g into 1 liter).
Shit's saved my bacon multiple times with abscesses. My dentist stocks a similar version with stabilized gas (ClO₂) and swears by it.
