I have been forced to finally master Nostr SQLite. I started on SQLite, hit walls, moved to Postgres, hit further walls, and finally landed on ElasticSearch/OpenSearch with infinite scalability. But now I am forced to finally master SQLite for local database on Android/iOS. I've built 4 different variations of Nostr SQLite and I'm benchmarking them against each other. The current fastest implementation (for reads) stores tags in an FTS table like "t:hello e:abc123..." The naive way is to keep a separate nostr_tags table and JOIN it, but then the query planner behaves wrong. This way has 25x read performance for 100k+ datasets.

These people invented the concept of mnemonic seed phrases, HD wallets, and hardware wallets in general. They are competent. The "vulnerability" a few years back requires 15+ minutes of physical access to the device with specialized hardware lmao. They patched it quickly. If anything the fact exploiting it was so hard proves it's good. I bet no other wallet could withstand that.

Ditto Relay lets you AUTH as either the sender or receiver to view. But to delete you have to be the receiver. This is the biggest source of dissonance in the theory, I think. But it's not too bad. It's a weird triangle shape of requirements.

This is not true. relay.ditto.pub gates giftwraps and nip04 DMs with AUTH. If you're in a Concord channel you hold the private key to the channel, so you just AUTH to it. It already works. Concord is perfectly compatible with NIP-17 relays except that NIP-17 doesn't explicitly state that the author shouldn't be allowed to delete. But it does say that the author should essentially throw away the key and that the recipient should be allowed to delete, so it's easy to argue that compliant NIP-17 relays _should_ prevent deletion by the author.

Also, NIP-17 makes it clear that giftwraps are owned by the recipient, not the sender, which is why I think it's already in the spirit to prevent deletion by the sender. 1 person should own an event. For giftwraps the owner is the recipient, not the sender.

Mostly fair assessment. We chose the better of 2 bad options. Concord v1 tagged the community instead of being authored by it, making it possible for any outsider to spam/DoS every Concord group on the protocol level (this is also true for NIP-17, hence the inversion).
v2 requires you to at least be a member of the group in order to have any possibility to disrupt it, which I think is the far better option. Now we harden for that case, which requires a great deal less centralization.
Hardening for the NIP-17 case requires exclusive relay centralization, in the sense that no "spammy relay" can be in the relay list at all. In the Concord case it's considered "safe" to have any relay in the list, and you want at least one or two to prevent giftwrap deletion by author - which by the way is already in the spirit of NIP-17.
tl;dr preventing spam in the NIP-17 route requires total relay centralization of supposed "spam-free relays" (does such a thing even exist?). Preventing mass deletions in the Concord route depends on having at least 1 special relay in the list.

Misleading. Borderline misinformation. I don't think there's a single "NIP-17 relay" in the world. In practice, no relays actually implement specific NIP-17 support according to the spec. So it doesn't matter whether it's compatible with NIP-17.
What people care about is if it's compatible with strfry and every other "dumb" relay. It is. It works under normal Nostr semantics.

None of the options are good. The "open weight" Chinese models are technically aligned but spiritually misaligned. The ethical difference is so small that it doesn't outweigh the impact. I justify using these proprietary models by the fact it can produce high quality open source software. So only I suffer from it but not my users.

Opus 5 kept refusing to reuse the nonce for the thumbnail of a NIP-17 file. I had to argue with it doing security theater. Finally I told it to read the spec and it conceded that interoperability was important in the "insecure" spec.

Also, Concord communities in practice have a handful of relays (about 5 or 6), not just the 2. The 2 in the app are for things like profile lookups, but once you're actually in a community the community uses its own relay list.

Not really. It helps to have a relay that prevents giftwrap deletion by the sender, but it's not strictly required. Without it the worst that can happen is that any member can delete all messages from the relay, which might be considered a feature to some rather than a bug. Devices sync and keep the events offline and wouldn't be impacted by such deletions. But we do use relays that prevent giftwrap deletion by the sender (the recipient can still delete them), and this solves that issue. So tl;dr not strictly required but good to have.

The only way to prevent spam while staying decentralized is to send an "authors" filter with every query. Any query without an authors filter is susceptible to spam.
Therefore we must add an "authors" filter to NIP-17. The best proposal so far is to precompute the nip44 shared secret of everyone you follow and query by those authors. But we will need to extend signers to allow safely signing events with it.

I tried it. It does feel slow. It starts every prompt by exploring the entire codebase, even though the AGENTS file already tells it everything it needs to know. Prior models didn't do this. Prior models did "think" (although they expressed their thoughts as user-level messages instead of behind "thinking" tool calls). So I don't think high thinking is the problem, the issue seems to be distrust of the AGENTS file.

People on Ditto can sync their PS1 memory cards to Nostr now based on @npub1ven…ddfh 's spec. You can view the memory cards of people you follow and copy their savegames onto your own memory card. Work by @npub1scv…68d8 . So awesome, lol. Imagine if emulators add first-class support for this.

When I first saw this design I thought it was horrible. Oh, so these are the only 2 signers in the world? Why are we hardcoding Amber and Primal, including even their logos in Ditto? @npub1ye5…knpr submitted this pull request 2 months ago and kept nagging us about it. Finally I learned how it worked. No, it's actually *detecting automatically* the NIP-55 apps installed on your system and then using their data from the system. Okay, that's better than I thought - new signer apps will show up here automatically. But really, NIP-55? Do we need MORE competing standards for signers? NIP-46 is hard enough. But @npub1scv…68d8 merged it anyway. I was annoyed. Then I used it. It's the greatest thing ever. Everything feels so fast. DMs decrypt instantly. This is the best remote signer UX I've ever seen. Sorry I doubted you.

Yesterday I booked a flight from Houston to Atlanta by pasting my credit card into the terminal. No API keys required. I just wanted to see if recent models could use Playwright well enough to do things on the closed web. It costs $7 in API tokens and the flight itself was $30. It did work. I think browser automation is the big thing to get agents to the next level. But it is a bit pricey. No, I'm not actually going to Atlanta. 😀

It depends on what you're trying to do, but if I made a Nostr v2 I'd use millisecond timestamps, string instead of number for kind, make all events replaceable/addressable but keep history of them. Tell me more about what you're creating.
